Housing: Need Current Students

My son lives in the quad this year and likes the more apartment-like feel. He and his roommates wanted to live in Bouquet, but in spite of a good lottery number, did not get in.

He really did like the Towers for freshman year. He studied in his room almost exclusively. While the honors floors and the SPACE floors are not technically quiet floors, they weren't too rowdy and the kids were respectful of eachother. If he asked someone to quiet down, they usually did. I don't think he ever studied in the library, but the main library is directly across Forbes Avenue from the Towers.

I really have no idea how many honors students are in Tower C, but I can tell you that students from all three towers visit back and forth all of the time.

I think the RA's are a mixed bag at any school. Some probably are very interested in doing a good job while others are mostly interested in free housing. Son's freshman RA held floor meetings and seemed generally available. He sees his quad RA less because of the apartment set-up and because one RA has a few floors due to fewer students per floor.

lkf725 - On the website it says that some of the quad suites have kitchenettes. On the side bar it says they have refrigerators and microwaves. What is included in a kitchenette? Is there a sink? What about a regular oven or a cooktop/burner? Is it easier to do some of your own cooking if you live in the quad? Thanks.

Bruce Hall has included in it's kitchenette a small full sized refrigerator, a microwave, sink, disposal, ample cupboards and about six feet of counter space. They brought some wire shelving to store more canned goods, chips, etc underneath the long kitchen counter space. A nice feature is that the university picks up the trash every day.

I know some of the other quad dorms, such as Brackenridge, have only MicroFridges along with the microwave, etc. There are no ranges in the quad, although there used to be! Also, sadly, no dishwashers. These days, to get a full kitchen with a stove/range you have to stay in an "apartment" such as Forbes-Craig or Bouquet Gardens.

However, the boys make a remarkable amount of food with just a microwave and a toaster. They took a George Forman Grill, but never used it. I think that because they have a big refrigerator, they do make more food in the quad suite than they did in the towers dorm.
