Our S is still deciding where he will accept admission and cal poly is looking like his first choice at the moment. Since housing is on a first come, first served basis, what are the odds that he will receive a room in either the towers or redbrick dorms? He would be happy in either one of those locations but would not want to be in the apartments.
@ENsMom my daughter just showed me your note, so answering under her login. My oldest daughter graduated cal poly 2013 and other daughter will be attending in fall. Call Cal Poly housing 805-756-5690. They are so helpful with questions. Towers tend to fill up faster than red bricks. What is your son’s major? Red bricks are living and learning so each one is themed for business, ag, engineering etc. However, any major can be in any red brick. North Mountain is next to red bricks. Not sure but would think they would fill up slower.
Thanks calpoly13’s Mom! I did call housing, and they were happy to answer my questions. They did say that around 2,000 students accepted admission through ED, so they will, of course, be first in line.
My son’s major is Poli Sci and his first choice would be Trinity, one of the red bricks. After that, one of the towers. He is a very social guy and I don’t think he would be happy if he ends up at PCV. Cerro might be OK. Any suggestions which he should avoid if he is an outgoing guy, looking to meet new people? He has no problem being in a triple.
My daughter stated that on the Cal Poly facebook page (approx 2500 students ) the majority wanted the towers. I think each red brick holds at least 400 students, mostly triples. And there are 6 red bricks. North Mountain complex is adjacent to red bricks. There are 5 North Mountain buildings, with each I think having 64 rooms. And they are all triples. That’s about 1000 students alone. Your son will probably not have any problem getting a room in Fremont or a north mountain bldg. My other daughter had a lot of friends in all of the dorms and they all had a great time. The housing dept tries to keep the freshmen in the dorms and not Apts, unless requested. Also a huge secret is that the housing dept goes by the payment submitted date, not the application date, so I’m sure there are a lot of regular decision applicants that haven’t paid a deposit yet, leaving you with the chance to pay that deposit as soon as he decides Cal Poly is his choice. Please don’t hesitate to ask more questions. I’ve been through all of this before so I understand your concerns.
