I need a little insight on housing at UCSD. I will be attending UCSD this winter for the first time. I am currently looking at my options as to where I should live. I can either live in the transfer housing or somewhere off-campus.

What are the cons to living on campus, specifically at the village? Also, what are the cons to living off-campus?

I know that the village is going to be expensive but will it be that much more than living off campus. It seems that most people who love off campus are living with people they know, so it may be hard for me to find a comfortable place to live.

Anyway, any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You pretty much have it accurate. Living on campus your first quarter is probably what I would do because it will be easier to make friends, you’ll automatically be in a community of people in similar situations. Living off campus would definitely be cheaper but absolutely harder to meet people - and probably isolating if you don’t know anyone already.

Good points here. I don’t want to have to deal with not making friends or going way beyond to meet new people on top of going to school. Dorms sound like a good deal right now, minus the fact that it’s expensive. Thank you 915.

I would live on campus your first year here (if you can afford it of course). At a school like UCSD your going to find dorms/apt instrumental in making friends and having the ability to be more involved in the campus. Trust me it is worth the money!
