Housing Options

Hey everyone, I’m a current prospective Trustee Scholar for the Class of 2019 and was told to request housing asap, so I am. However, I’m currently looking at the different housing options, and cannot seem to tell the difference between some of them. For example, what is the difference between Birnkrant Residential College and the Honors House? Which dorm should an incoming freshman try to apply for?

Also, if you have any comments/positives/negatives of certain dorms, please feel free to discuss them!
Thanks for all of the help!

What’s your e-mail? I made a chart of the pros and cons of each dorm, feel free to contact me if you want it.

Put Birnkrant as your 1st choice. You won’t regret it. :slight_smile:

Honors House is a bit confusing…It’s not really what the name implies, more like a very small dorm with its own meal supply. It’s good if you want to get super close to a small group of people, but you can do that with your floor at BK.

Is Birnkrant really that great? I’m also a prospective Trustee Scholar, & I put Webb studios as my first choice, simply because they’re the cheapest option, & because Webb doesn’t close over the winter break (I’m an international, so this is a really big advantage for me). Birnkrant is my second choice.

My son LOVES Webb. He and a friend share a one bedroom/2 person apartment.
It is, I think…a bit MORE expensive than other dorms, but they have their own kitchen/bath.

@MsMommy‌ Thank you! Actually, studios are $4145/semester, but it’s true that all the other dorms/apartments are more expensive.

Layra…is a studio one person?

Just a note to all who have been admitted already (congratulations!)–I strongly advise you sign up for housing asap, to get the best chance at priority housing choice. The good news is–you can switch up your preferences so you are not locked in until later. Just get in line, as it were. For a nominal fee (it used to be $45) you can sign up, make your selections, and go back and change them if you care to do so. If you end up going to another university, you do lose that small deposit. But if you end up coming to USC, you’ll be glad you signed up early for housing.

@MsMommy‌ two person

Yes, sign up for housing right away, even if you are not 100% sure that you will be attending. Cannot stress that enough. Daughter is class of 2017. I remember when we signed her up you listed your five preferences in order. She signed up early. She filled out the profile too. Another girl saw her profile, looked her up on Facebook, and approached her about being roommates. They got their app in, selected each other, and got their first preference. They were in Pardee and liked their choice. Room was clean, RA was great. Pardee was a cheaper option as I recall…
