I know we don’t get to pick dorms the first year and we’re place on quad/suite based on our UGC. But is consideration for first choice UGC made based on the order our deposit is received? (or any order all?) I also heard that more freshmen may get triples this year, so who is it to say which group of people get triple/double or is it completely random?
Last year, 94% of our freshmen got either their first or second choice on UGCs (and the rest got third choice), so that’s not an issue.
Tripling is somewhat random, however. When you deposit has no bearing on whether or not you’re tripled.

What’s the average number of incoming freshman that get tripled? @sbuadmissions
Too early to tell. We won’t know until May.

I went to the admitted student’s day reception and spoke to a tour guide who was tripled his freshman year. From what he told me, tripling isn’t as bad as it sounds. Most of the time your roommates will be cool and there is a sharing system implemented for you. In his case he got a detripling offer ~3 weeks into the first semester so I’m staying positive.
It really isn’t that bad. I mean, yes, most of you aren’t used to living with one person, let alone two, but in a surprising number of cases (almost 20% every year), students actually opt to remain tripled rather than having to decide who to kick out of the room, which says something.
