The post office will also let you take out a dolly to haul any really large or heavy packages. You have to leave your student ID with them and they give it back when you return the dolly. During move in days, the dollies are always in high demand though, so they ay not be available right when you want it.

S&P - no idea the post office lends that out! Thanks :)

Also, what’s the earliest that you can have packages mailed? Hypothetically, if I ordered something a month before moving back in on campus, will the post office hold it there?

Thanks!

Yes, just keep in mind with the dollies that while the Campus Center has elevators, your house may not. So when you’re packing those boxes, think about what you reasonably could carry up several flights of stairs.

I think as soon as you are assigned a box number in the post office, they will start holding packages for you. I definitely sent things about a month ahead to the post office and picked them up when I arrived (I shipped a box of books media mail, and I think one other box of belongings). They will also hold packages for you over school breaks (so if, for example, you wanted to ship winter clothes or holiday gifts home ahead of your return). For extra insurance, it’s always good to mark the boxes PLEASE HOLD FOR PICKUP

Thankfully, my house does have an elevator. :)

What if I order something online (i.e: Amazon) and can’t mark the boxes myself?

Thanks!

They will still hold your packages. I once had a bunch of posters shipped to campus and they held them all summer. So unless they’ve changed the policy (always possible) you should be able to still mail things there for them to hold. You’ll probably get more detailed info on that once you receive your housing information.

Carolyn, I found the past two class announcements on the Smith website.

I have a fridge which was passed down to me by a senior who graduated my first year. Not necessary, but nice.

As far as a printer goes, I do not have one, nor have I ever had any desire to go get one. There are places to print all over campus, and with access to certain labs comes free printing (free color printing too!).
