Wanted to get thoughts on apparent housing shortage at Tufts. Seems like Tufts purchased a property to help ease overcrowding. Is this enough?
Tufts does have an issue with lack of housing. They are trying to improve the situation but are limited in available real estate. Typically, juniors and seniors move off campus and AFAIK but plenty do stay on campus. That said, my son moved off campus his junior year and it turns out to be less expensive than the dorms.
Tufts has ALWAYS had a significant portion of students living off campus. I believe they have a clearing house system with local landlords. The thing is, many students feel ready to leave campus housing by junior year. (Sophomores manage to get singles, which signals to me that housing is available.) I don’t think most upperclassmen who want housing on campus have trouble finding it because many opt out, but someone who is a current student could fill you in if something has changed recently.
