Hey guys. I'm a senior in High School and I'm going to be a Wake Forest Freshman this fall :) I'm really excited about it too. I was wondering, because I'm ansy, when do I fill out my housing survey and chose my meal plan? I want to make sure I fill out everything on time.

Thanks :)

hmm, not sure of dates. But don’t worry you haven’t missed it yet. And the housing/meal thing aren’t a big deal. It’s not like the first ones to apply get better housing

Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me Wneck :)

Wake sets up a web site for incoming freshman explaining everything you need to know about housing, meals, orientation, foreign language placement exam etc. All the forms and important dates are linked on the site so it is nice that everything you need to know is in one place. I can’t remember exactly when they put the site up, sometime early summer if I remember. I am sure if you google WF first year student info you will probably be able to look at the info for last year’s incoming class. Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy WF.

Yea, the new site goes live May 2nd. Okay, I’ll just wait it out. Thanks Mary :)

I went through the New Student website but could not find any form or information on picking a roommate or preferences for housing. Did I miss it? Same with the meal plan. I see where it describes the plans, but not how to choose one.

You don’t get to choose a roommate. And you have no preference for housing unless you want substance-free housing.

As for the meal plan, I’m not too sure. You may not be able to even choose that yet. I’d check the Wake Forest 2015 Facebook group, they might have better info on that if you ask a question about meal plan

Many colleges ask at least a few questions: are you a night owl? Clean/messy? Smoker/non-smoker? etc. when pairing up roommates. So that is not the case? If you can’t pick a roommate, can you change second semester if things aren’t working out?

The housing survey is supposed to be online at the beginning of June. Meal plan descriptions are up.

I believe you can change after the 3rd week if things aren’t working out. You can definitely change after the 1st semester. And yes they do ask a few questions (smoking, night, do you do hw in your room or library, etc)

Ahaha, they ask questions, certainly, but I’m not totally certain if they actually use them. I’m pretty certain my roommate checked off the opposite of what I did for everything except smoking :(

Wneckid99 is right; you can change roommates after a couple of weeks if things don’t work out. In a way, random pairing is helpful – even if you pick a roommate things might not work out (lots of people think they can live with a friend, and can’t…).

In lots of cases, having a roommate who is the opposite of you is helpful. If you’re a library studier and your roommate is a room studier, you each have your own space, no? Housing works itself out in the end; a few people transfered into and out of my floor and all ended up with a housing situation that suited their respective needs.
