i was accepted to neu early decision as was a good friend of mine...
i'm a guy and she's a girl.
i was just wondering if there's a way for us to request to be in the same dorm (because obviously we can't be in the same room) so we can be close or whatever.

i realize that people reading this are going to tell me to "make new friends" and whatever and i am aware that in college you meet new people. it would just be cool to have someone near me who i've known for a while.

so... should we apply for the same LLC? advice?

A lot of times LLCs are divided by gender, because first year dorms usually are (like a floor or part of a floor will all be one gender). The exception is honors in IV.

As of now, I don’t believe you can request to be in the same building, but not the same room. If there is a LLC for both genders, then sure, but try not to pick a LLC based just on that. For example if you both did business, but you aren’t a business major, you could get really really sick of everyone else being a business major…

what are the gender-neutral LLCs? i would rather be on a floor with girls too

Gender-neutral LLC is for people who would be more comfortable around suitemates of the opposite sex. They are singles attached to another single in IV. They aren’t ALWAYS of the other gender though, since the gender code is “U” (not M or F), so it could happen that two guys picked rooms connecting each other without realizing it. It is generally understood that it’s designed for the lgbt community, but it’s definitely open to everyone and I know people in it who are just more comfortable that way. I know I definitely would have preferred living connected to a guy’s room then dealing with a bunch of catty girls my freshman year since I was always friends with more guys than girls in high school. I believe it’s open for freshman as well (could be wrong, but I feel like it would be against the whole point of the LLC to not allow freshman). Just be careful though because you’ll probably be with mostly upperclassmen, I don’t think as a freshman you can request who the other room is (I think you can as an upperclassman), and the only other first years in IV will be the honors kids- who can be a little clingy at first since they are all in the same tower.

thanks! i thought that every dorm was gender neutral. are there any non-honors/non-IV dorms that freshman can have that have girl and guy rooms?

Nope. The closest you get is in suite-style (Kennedy is one, but there might be others than I forget), girls and guys will have suites right next to each other because they have private bathrooms. BUT as a freshman you have no say in what particular room you’ll get, or what dorm you’ll be in unless you get lucky about where the LLC you pick is. Otherwise guys and girls will be divided by part of a floor or by floor, but again you can’t pick unless you get lucky with the LLC- which could be in a totally different place each year depending on interest.

Even as an upperclassman, it’s only suite-style by gender. The ONLY time a guy and girl could share a bathroom while living on campus at Northeastern (other than using the opposite gender’s bathroom in a normal communal dorm) is in the gender-neutral housing in IV. Honors LLC as a freshman isn’t gender sharing- its two same-gender doubles (or singles if you are very very lucky) connected by a bathroom. Girls and guys rooms are right nearby, but you can’t pick your location.

Side note- I’m like 99.9% sure I’m right on these things, but if something has changed since I moved out last fall that I haven’t heard about then somebody please tell me.
