housing

i'm an incoming first year and want to get opinions on housing. should i go suite or go for a double?

either way you are going to get a double. Old dorms are hall style. New Dorms are suite style (mostly. Cauthen and Woody are hall style.)

I think the rumor is next year you won't have a choice between old and new dorms. (Can anyone confirm this is the case??)

I picked new dorms my first year and got put into Old dorms and loved it. Closer to class, gave me an opportunity to meet a lot of people different than me. I like the hall style because you have to instantly meet 20 people on your hall. In the suite, you only have 10 people and although you have a sister suite next door, a lot of my friends in new dorms didn't know those people as well. Really, they are both good options.

wow ive never met anyone who requested new and got put in old! usually its the other way around...

I have noticed that New Dorms has more room, but Old Dorms are closer to classes. Hereford are mostly singles, but the distance scare most people. This board have enough people to explain how great Brown is. There is also the IRC which is nice since you will be living with all of the international students.

So you can get into IRC as a first year?

See, I just went to the website and found the answer to that myself. I checked out IRC's website and I am very, very interested at this point. I aslo downloaded the applicationg but there is no due date. Does that mean I can send it whenever? Also, I didn't see anywhere how many first years are there. In general do many first years go there? What's the word around about IRC?

there aren't many first years there but there are a few. im not sure of the exact numbers. but that isnt a bad option... its just about as far as new dorms anyways, just in a diff direction.

As for me, I'd like to be put in Old Dorms..much closer to classes. Brown's a good prospect but the application is a bit of a hassle for me right now. So maybe I'll apply after first year. I might also decide to live in IRC, but not my first year 'cause I feel like first year dorms are part of the UVA experience. :) I have a question about Brown though.. in the application it says that the deadline for submitting for current UVA undergrads is November. How's that possible then, since school starts late August? Or is that for those who want to live in Brown the next school year?

That deadline is for living in Brown next school year.

APPLY TO BROWN!!

tennis and I are on a mission to revamp this haha as we decided 10 mins ago while eating dinner at the last brown banquet of the yr

great so you can reach all 50 or so incoming students that view the board by flooding every thread with brown plugs, wonderful.

regarding the IRC, yes it's open for first years and is a different experience from old/new/brown which are all generally different environments.
