Housing

NYC, despite the usual problems with roommates the first year, having a roommate is a plus when just entering. If nothing else, another person around makes sure that a nervous first year doesn't hole up in her room.

I doubt many first years get singles, anyway.

NYC, where does the BF go to school?

NYC, don't give up all hope yet. One of the benefits of living in Cutter (I'm a two year resident, former VP and House Pres. so I should know), is that we not only have a lot of singles, but a high turnover rate. Many upperclassmen placed in Cutter move out, go abroad, graduate j-term, so spring semester, if not sooner, you could probably score a single from someone who's moving out.

The benefit of having a double in Cutter is that it has some of the biggest doubles on campus, so you'll have plenty of space. Hopefully you'll get a roommate you can get along with.

Also, you Cutter-ites will have the benefit of hanging out with Zoe Ames, the new HP and a very cool girl. She wants to work for NASA and she has like a million items of clothing with NASA insignias (did you know NASA makes pink polos?) and a room that is entirely space themed. This may sound really weird, but trust me, she's awesome. Weird in a quirky good way, not a SSFFS way (you'll learn what that means).

sorry, I didn't realize that nyc was the parent, not the d. Well, pass it along.

S&P - I will definitely pass along your post.

TDad - BF is at Amherst.

Momwaitin' - D attended BS nearby and already has friends at all five of the colleges as well as her BS, also D is no shrinking violet and she's had exp (1) living away from home; (2) living w/ a roommate (in fact one former roommate is entering Smith as a soph transfer).

NYC, if it helps your peace of mind any, while one can take classes at Amherst while going to Smith, it would be significantly harder to spent vast amounts of social time at Amherst while going to Smith. I suspect your D will learn to deal...it's not all that rare a phenomenon.

I can't seem to find any information about Albright House as opposed to the description of it on the Smith website. Any information about Albright (past or present experiences/knowledge) would be very helpful. Thanks!

Albright is a nice house, it's kind of a sister house to Baldwin, they're very similar. Both on Bedford Terrace, so close to the Hungry Ghost Bread shop and the state street grocery stores, pharmacies, and liquor stores. Also close to the shortcut into downtown. No dining in the house, but they have a big fully functioning kitchen so you can bake or cook right in your house (you can't do that in houses with dining halls, we only have microwaves).
