Housing...

I’ll be a freshman next fall, Wharton class of 2012. J
I have some questions about the housing process…
I think I prefer to live in a single room with a private bathroom. What are my chances to get one?
Do I need to apply to some of the Residential Programs in order to increase my chances?

Another big question is about the houses… Which house should I chose if I don’t really want to live in the Quad?

I read about Harrison College House - the Freshmen Experience.
How can I apply for that program?
Maybe someone can tell me more about it?
The thing is that I read that “freshmen may not be eligible for all room types” what does it mean? How can I know if I can get a single at Harrison or not?

And what about Harnwell College House? The International Program seems nice to me cause I’m an international student.

What about Stouffer Mayer? Are there for freshmen at all?

Sansom West? East? Are there any freshmen?

I’m having trouble choosing which houses I should apply for… maybe someone can help me here??!?!?!

Thanks……

you'll receive a mailing with all the information you need to apply.

the housing application is done online, at which time you can select your choice of 2 residential programs, plus 6 regular choices if you are not accepted to either program.

there are freshmen in mayer; it's actually a very coveted place because the rooms are large and well-furnished, but the location is not the best.

freshmen are not allowed to live in sansom west, where upperclassmen and graduate students live, and sansom east is practically all graduate students.

The likelihood of you getting a single with a private bathroom is extremely low..I don't even know if it's possible for a freshman.

You can apply for the Freshman Experience and you'd probably have a pretty good chance of getting in because I don't think it's that popular. Basically you live on a floor with all or mostly all freshman in Harrison, a house which is otherwise all upperclassmen. It's not a particularly social environment, from what I've heard, but it's supposed to be good for studying and apparently the people in the program bond a lot. I'm pretty sure you can't get a typical single because all the rooms are suite-style, but you could get a single within a suite. I don't think you can request it though.

Basically the same as Harrison. Almost everyone living in the high rises is an upperclassman, so it's not a great way to meet a lot of people, but if you don't care about that then it's probably a better study environment than some of the freshman dorms and it'll be much nicer accommodations.

I think you should apply for housing in the high rises, Mayer, and maybe look into Gregory. Do not apply for Hill because I'm pretty sure you'd hate it.

^ Good answer, and I'm currently in the Freshman Experience program. There are two possibilities for freshmen in Harrison:

(1) single-bedroom double: one bedroom, two people. includes a bathroom, not sure if it includes a kitchen/living room.
(2) three-bedroom quad: three bedrooms, four people. there are two single bedrooms and one double, as well as a living room/kitchen/bathroom. you have to switch after first semester so that everyone has a chance to get a single.

And what about double room with 2 bedrooms? Can I get it somewhere as a freshman?
