How academic is the Sam Fox School experience as Washington University in St. Louis

Hello, I was just accepted into Washu’s college of art a couple of days ago, and I’m really excited about it. The problem is, I’m still not 100% sure I want to go to art school— I want to have a liberal arts education as well. So here are my questions for anyone with more knowledge than myself:
How easy is it to switch from the College of Art to Arts and Sciences if I change my mind after a semester?
Are the Sam Fox kids integrated socially/academically into the rest of the university?
Could I add a second major in the arts and sciences if I wanted? Art history perhaps?
Also, this is kind of stupid but I’m just wondering, is it easier to get into the College of art academically? Like is it less of an academic achievement?

Those are good questions to ask the admission and advising teams at Wash U. Don’t be afraid to ask them directly.

Don’t think that Sam Fox is ‘less academic’ than any of the other schools. There is a girl from my son’s high school who had an unweighted 4.0 and is NMF who is at Fox (she’s currently a junior).

It’s fairly easy to double major/minor across the different schools. Son is in Arts and Sciences (double major in Biology/History) and a CompSci minor (McKelvey Engineering School). There was a kid in his dorm freshman year who was a CompSci/History double major.

My daughter will get a BFA from Sam Fox and a BA in English with a concentration in creative writing from the College of Arts and Sciences. She has advisors from both colleges and they meet together. She wanted a liberal arts experience because while she is a talented artist, she is “more than just her art.” She is thrilled with her classes at Sam Fox and is having an intellectually stimulating experience. Sam Fox students are integrated into the social, academic and cultural life at school in the same way that engineering, arts and sciences etc. students are. Her roommates this year are STEM majors. She has friends in the art school but also many friends in other disciplines. Next year’s roommates has one from Sam Fox but the rest are from the arts and sciences, I believe. Art students are equally academically talented as those admitted to other colleges at Wash U. My daughter is very happy there, plans to pursue an MFA after graduation and ultimately hopes to teach art at the collegiate level until she is an established author/illustrator.
