how accurate are these corrections?

How do you define a horrible essay? how do you define an excellent essay? I sent several people my main common app essay which I spent a month or two through heavy editing and some of the people that read it said it was "horrible." I've had other people read that said it was really personal and they loved it. How do you measure on here whether people's comments are accurate or not? This is really becoming a horrifying experience lol

What's "accurate" is what's right for you. Honestly, this essay is about you, not about random people on CC, however nice they may be. If it sounds like you and feels like you and it's what you want to say, then you should define it as an "excellent" essay. I know it sounds kinda like a cop-out response, but if the college you're applying to thinks your personal experience is "horrible" like people are saying, then you're probably not going to be happy there anyways.

Here is some guidance on what constitutes an excellent essay:

A horrible personal essay, in my point of view, would be more like a research paper than a personal essay.

I've written research papers instead of personal essays, so I've done that before.
