How am I looking? EA. Worried Senior.

<p>I'm a senior that's really worried. I want GATech to be my #1 school that I apply to. However, there is one problem. My freshman year was quite disastrous. I'll post the stats below, and maybe someone can tell me where I stand and give a rough decision: likely, not likely, most likely in, etc.</p>

<p>I have a 3.64 UW and 3.81 W. I attend a semi-small public school in GA that offers very few AP classes. (extreme upward trend. 3.2 W/3.0 UW freshman year to 4.0 UW/4.5W Junior year.) I've taken the most rigorous course load at my school, and have even advocated for additional AP Courses, which got passed by the county after a year of pestering them. I wish GATech would take Counselor Recs, as my counselor has a lot to say about me changing the school and community. I also took a pre-cal course at a local university and made an A+, but that will unfortunately not be factored into my GPA.</p>

Ethnicity: Asian-Indian
SAT: I'm taking in Oct. Based on practice tests in Blue Book, I'll probably score between 1900 and 2000. Please assume that I get around a 1960. 760 W, 610 CR, and 590 M
Family Income: Less than $30,000 per year, both parents.

<p>You need to get to know the admissions counselor for your area. Don’t be obnoxious, but schedule a time to talk on the phone. Explain your situation and ask if there is anything else you can do. Your application needs to be <em>solid</em>, no typos, no errors. Good luck.</p>

<p>Do you mean the school counselor, or is there someone else I need to meet? I have great ties with my school counselor by the way. If this person is not the admissions counselor, then who is this person and how can I get into contact with him/her?</p>

<p>GA Tech has assigned persons within the admissions office who are assigned to certain areas of the country or type of student (women; Latino etc.). Go to the admission office website and search for your counselor. The counselors are going to be on the road so they may be coming to your high school or community for a visit. I find emails work better than a phone call. Introduce yourself in the email with a very brief description of somethings about you (no more than 2 sentences) Then say you need help with an issue and proceed to explain the problem or situation. Do not go on for tons of paragraphs. Make it focused. My DD always gets a response from her regional counselor. Good luck. </p>

<p>Also be sure to apply by Oct. 15 for consideration of merit money. By the say I think you are okay grade-wise. You have a good upward trend and great EC’s which GA Tech values. During our visit my DD was told to apply early because GA Tech accepts 70% of the applicants during that stage of the process.</p>
