How are CLA and CSE different?

Currently a student at a liberal arts college, I’m applying to Spring 2016 transfer admission to CLA of University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I want to major in math, and I’d like to know how CLA is different from CSE (college of science and engineering), especially for math/science major.

  • How far each college is located from each other? Can I take upper-level or graduate-level math classes as a student of CLA?
  • What are the most important difference of graduation requirement in these colleges?
  • If I will feel like to transfer to CSE in my fourth or fifth semester, is it possible to do that?

If I’m asking too many questions, please answer the first question only. Thanks in advance.

@aran12 this will get you started:

Good luck!

I’ll answer the first-- the colleges really aren’t physically separate in any way. Advising offices are in different buildings, but the classes will often the same (especially at higher levels). At lower levels, there may be sections reserved for CSE students only, but the coursework is similar.

As you can see from the link Mamelot provided- the difference is really about intensity.

Thanks for clarifying that!
