My teachers don't teach in 11 th grade high school so I have to get private tutoring in AP chem and pap pre cal. And next year probably in AP physics B and AP calc. My dad is worried I can't survive in college because I don't know how to "utilize info" and I am not an independent thinker. I am a straight A student, but how will I do in college? Do Professors teach and do the profesors have tutorials? Where do I go for help? How do become an independent thinker? My dad thinks I have to search for stuff on my own but how do I do that? I am so worried.

There are student tutors/mentors and such in college that you can use or you could ask friends for help or to make a little study group. You probably will do more work outside of class in college as opposed to high school (I’m sure you’ve heard the 2 hours outside for every hour inside). In this way, yes, you will need to be more of an independent learner. It sounds like you have some time before college to get all this sorted out so don’t start worring yet…you’ll be fine.

Thanks. But how do I become an independent learner?

this might help…there’s a few promising-looking links on the first page
[Let me google that for you](http://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+become+an+independent+learner)

thank you very much

College serves many purposes, but I feel that most overlooked one is the development of a learning style. You should strive to learn a style that is going to work well with you, so that when you are one day working, you will be able to teach yourself new skills. If you are planning on attending a top college don’t expect professors to baby you. They are going to expect that you have read the book and that you are studying the material constantly. As long as you are a hard worker who is willing to do whatever is necessary to succeed, you will do fine.

Professors also hold office hours (time where you can go for extra help) and most schools have a teaching center where you can get paired with a tutor. I can guarantee that no professors will not turn down a student who has worked really hard, but is missing a concept. And if you do come across one that does, then he/she isn’t worth your time. Good luck and don’t stress about it!
