I know I didn’t give a whole lot of information but I’d still really appreciate any comments. Thanks!
I am also top 3% in a large, fairly competitive public school.
You have the academic credentials to be in the ballpark for Bowdoin admission. Being from the South helps. If you are a nationally ranked tennis player, I assume you want to continue playing and have contacted the Bowdoin coach already. You probably know that Bowdoin has one of the top tennis programs in DIII (NCAA Championship in 2016), so you would have to be really good to be recruitable, but if you are it could be quite helpful with admissions.
@ReallyOk Hey thanks for responding. As you know D3 schools can’t technically give athletic scholarships, but coaches help a lot with admissions and academic money. I think I am good enough to land a spot on the team for sure.
You should shoot an e-mail to the tennis coach with information about your skills and performance. Look up info on the Bowdoin web sit. Being a recruit at Bowdoin could definitely give you a leg up in admissions – but you have to have to be in the academic range (which you appear to be) and to be good enough at tennis to contribute to a team that regularly challenges for the NCAA crown. Note they will not give you merit money - only need-based financial aid.
@ReallyOk Thanks! I haven’t yet contacted the coach but will soon.
From my experience as a parent of an athlete I would recommend you make contact with the coach as soon as possible.
NESCAC Pre-reads started July 1st and coaches are looking to finalize their ED list based on same - do not wait
Agree with all of the above. Our son was a top student but would not have been admitted to Williams without coach support. If the coach wants you, being a recruited athlete can be a very valuable hook.
