How are my chances of being accepted into Carnegie Mellon and Cornell?

I'm a high school junior living on Guam (~way out there). But I attend a very competitive IB private school. All my classes are IB and I have 1 AP (Chemistry) class.

PSAT: 178 (I had to face some very disturbing matters the night before the test; I was mentally and emotionally unstable at the time of the test. I rather not discuss what happened. )

SAT: I took the January SAT, so I don't know what i got yet. But on the practice test I scored around 2000~2100. I take SAT prep courses so, I'm hoping to score high.

GPA: (Our school reports our grades in percentages.) 89%*

Extra-Curriculars: High School Soccer Team, Tutor to other students, Animal Shelter volunteer, Service Club member, Japanese and Korean tour guide translator (Guam is a big tourist attraction for the Asian countries).(((My school requires us to do at least 100 hours of extra-curricular activities before we graduate, so I have no choice)))

Languages: Korean, English and Japanese fluently.

Misc. work:
Won all-island "Ideal Home Design" architecture contest. March 2006.
Worked as a construction laborer (10 hr a day) over the summer (odd job lol)

-I'm very interested in the architecture program at Carnegie Mellon and Cornell.

I've been uneasy lately because I've been freaked out about whether or not I'll be accepted to a respectable university. I just needed to know if i match up with the better universities. So, anyways, how're my chances of getting in?

There are other respectable universites outside of Carnegie Mellon and Cornell. However, it is interesting that you live in Guam, are you native to the area? If so, my percentages are not very accurate

But anyway...

CMU: 45%
Cornell: 40%

Both these are higher if you are indeed a RESIDENT of Guam.

yeah, i've been living on Guam ever since I was born. Thanks for helping. Any suggestions on how to improve my chances?

no GPA?
based on SAT scores,
cornell and cmu are reaches but do able if u have great gpa.

u live in Guam and play soccer???? you should easily make the national team there :D

my school doesn't count GPA, they stopped counting GPA a few years ago. Anyways, if im in the 2000-2100 range for SAT, do they meet cornell and carnegie mellon's standards? Also, all my classes are IB and AP, will that somehow help my chances? and also how would i improve my chances of being accepted into the schools? Oh, being on the national team for soccer is alot harder than you think, i'm not too crazy about joining.

I think your biggest hook is that you are from Guam, and that you play soccer.

Your SAT scores could improve.

man, guam is ranked like last or second to last in the world out of over 200 countries in soccer. it's also very small and it's like a tourist place. Soccer shouldn't be that popular there right?

no gpa at all? that's odd, how do they evaluate ur academic each year then? 2100 should be competitive enough for CMU and Cornell. 2000 is a little low.

soccer is popular on Guam, so is baseball, basketball and golf. But the most popular sport as of now is probably MMA. MMA popularity grew in Guam when UFC's popularity grew worldwide. But there are only 170,000 people here in all on 39 mile long island, Guam is just too small to compete with the likes of the rest of the world. Our national team gets creamed by China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea by an average 10-0, and the worst game I've seen so far is when Korea beat Guam by 19-0, lol.

Yeah, our school doesnt evaluate gpa, they evaluate on percentages. So here's how our school works. We get scores on assignments, tests, quizes etc in percent scores. Then the teacher averages the scores into a quarter grade. and on our report cards, the different percent quarter grades are averaged together into a final grade. It's pretty hard to get high percent scores, because the honors, IB, AP classes aren't weighted. We're the only school on island that doesnt use gpa.

They said that by using gpa scoring scale, it gives an unfair advantage to the other schools. The level between the my school and another high school is extreme. nearly all of the high school classes are IB and AP classes, the only classes that aren't IB/ AP are the ones for students who can't handle the level taught in the IB and AP classes. Also, we're a very small school, there are only 29 people in our grade, so top % is kind of out of the question. So it's pretty competitive, when i say that our upperclassmen (a good number of them), have been accepted into many elite universities. So far in the senior class right now, a few of them have been accepted into yale, upenn, stanford and penn state via early decision. So im just saying that we're competitive enough to have nearly half the graduating class attend top universities.

I said 2000-2100 on my practice SAT because I didnt grade the essay part. so what im saying is that if i get a 0 on my essay then its a 2000 and if i get a 6 or something its a 2100. Anyways, in terms of extra curriculars do you think i stand okay? any other things i can improve on?

also, im planning attending the summer pre college in either cmu or cornell. But I can't decide, any help on that? thanks..

bump anyone?
