How are my grades? I think they're bad?

Just got my report card-
English I H. - 95
Wld History H. - 96
Geometry Hon- 96
Accel. Biology H.- 97
Latin II Hon. - 95
Comp. Apps (required in our school, it's retarded)- 98
Health- 98
Gym (if anyone cares)- 92

Calculated UW GPA is like 3.857, W- 4.63
And perfect attendance =DDDD

Even for freshmen grades, aren't these kind of low? Like Top 25 schools (not HYPSM but... you know), would they find grades like this okay? I'm top 10%, and last I checked like 4-6% top. I mean, a lot of other students with me got like all 98's so I kinda feel... retarded.

That looks like a 4.0 to me. How did you get to a 3.857?

Perhaps on your school’s system? I just averaged all my final scores up and divided by 25 and got 3.8…
4.0 UW would be like all 99’s/100’s

No. 4.0 would be all As, which you have.

Incorrect. An A in GPA format can be converted to at least a 95. So he got 7 A’s and 1 B. Add them all up and dived by 8 and you get 3.875.

To answer your question, they are good.

Wow… either you’re understanding this wrongly or something, or I’ve TERRIBLY screwed up this whole UW GPA thing.

lol no I just did it differently. Their is no clear way to convert a percentage to a GPA format. Many colleges use their own formula. Some say a 92 is an A while others say a 95 is an A and their are even those that limit an A to a 97. The one that is used most is 95 so I used that one as an A.

A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. Add them all up. You had 7 A’s so that is 28 and you had 1 B which is a 3 so in total that is 31. Then divide by the number of classes which is 8. 31/8 is 3.875.

For the weighted GPA. Add a .5 for each honors and add a whole point for each AP and IB class before you divide by the number of classes taken.

Their is no clear way to convert percentage to GPA. I just used my way. The only thing you can say is that your GPA is around a 3.8. It is impossible to be specific because their is no universal way to convert them.

This is high school or college?

This is how colleges convert them. They each have a different value for every letter grade. Like I said, generally an A is a 95 so I converted it using that method.

No matter it’s 3.85 or 4.0, I can’t see anything wrong with your grade.
They are PERFECT !
Why you think they are bad?

There’s some grade deflation in my school, but not really significant here are my freshman grades. Just finished my freshman year. Are these on the right track for Hopkins?

English I PreAP-91 (slacked off majorly first semester, pulling an A was a miracle)
Geometry PreAP-91
Spanish III-93
Phys Ed-100
Biology PreAP-92
AP Human Geography-93 (easy class, but slacked off majorly in the beginning) AP Exam grade expected 5

Wait, what? An “A” is a 95? In Canada an A is an 80 and above. And getting scores like those in the high 90’s is unheard of here. My average is a 94, and how I worked to get that average.

I meant for the OP, is this high school or college?

Gym doesn’t count toward your GPA. You have a 4.0 - end of discussion.

Yes, in the US an A is not anything lower then a 90. In most college an A is a 95. However know that high schools are different in other countries. For example in the UK an A is 80-100%. Colleges in the US know this and they calculate it differently for foreign students so don’t be alarmed.

I do not know how JHU converts but if it’s by an A is 92 then you should be good unweighted. All you need now is to take weighted classes to bring up your weighted GPA.

Waterbear: “This is how colleges convert them. They each have a different value for every letter grade. Like I said, generally an A is a 95 so I converted it using that method.”

Public schools here use 90, 80, 70, 60 for figuring grades and only put letter grades (no pluses or minuses or numbers) on the transcript. Someone with a 90 average would have a 4.0 UW.

Yeah this is High school guys, NOT college.

And how do I have one B? 92 in Gym? Cause 92 is still A-.

It is true that Gym mostly doesn’t count to their recalculated GPA’s although their are some lower tier universities that do count it.

For most universities he does have a 4.0 and I don’t know how he/she could even think his/her grades are horrible.

My apologies Seadog, I thought you were talking to me.

I told you that for most universities an A is 95+. Colleges do not count minuses or pluses. As such, a 92 is a B. Again, remember that all universities are different and that they may consider a 92 to be an A. So keep your mind open to possibilities.

90-92 = A-
93-96 = A
96-100 = A+

Disregard any + or - signs when calculating your GPA.

You have a 4.0. We good here?

Sigh…it seems no one listens… This is not a test score. This is a GPA. In a test a 90 is an A. In GPA most colleges consider it a B.

If you won’t listen to me then listen to them.

Every university counts percentages differently.

I am not arguing that he doesn’t have a 4.0. He clearly has one since his PE class doesn’t count. I am arguing how you convert his percentage to GPA.
