If you are looking for the smart, I read the New York Times cover-to-cover, walk around with a Strand “miles and miles of books” canvas bag on my shoulder, and spend my spring breaks in Europe type, then you will be in heaven. Also, like any elite college, there are also a lot of Asian and Jewish girls, which are both hotly contested niche markets amongst the pastier boys.

But I knew more than one alpha male who (vocally) felt the female portion of the student body to off putting. It’s not so much the looks, as it is the personality. I mean, UChicago has the second highest abstinence rate for non-religious schools in the US (a tidbit that of course was researched by none other than the U of C itself –NORC to be exact). By average college standards, the place is pretty frigid as far as the hook up culture goes. Not that you cannot find it, but it’s not the norm, and you will definitely get some dirty looks if you are in campus housing and roll that way.

While this is no criteria to choose a school on, I have to admit there are some elite colleges that amaze me in the number of beautiful people they have.

"CollegeClickTV has video interviews of UChicago students, some of whom are (obviously) girls: CollegeClickTV.com"

That does not bode well on the hotness front.

Stop bagging on the OP. Humans are animals and have certain needs and desires.

I've visited a few times. There are a few very attractive/hot girls. Many acceptable looking girls. And the rest are just average. I wasn't impressed by any means, but I wouldn't consider the girls to be lacking.

Of note is that I didn't see any girls who looked "over done" in the make-up department. In other words whore-like. Even the most attractive were tasteful and somewhat simple. In a good way I think.

^^^ I want a link to this abstinence study. If true that is devastating.

I doubt the place is just swarming with beautiful models, but I know quite a few VERY pretty and smart girls who go there, and have also met other girls there who are girlfriends of guys I know there...also pretty. So, yes, there are plenty of good looking girls at Chicago, just not tan, blonde, Malibu Barbie clones...but who wants that anyways?

Keep in mind, Chicago isn't a place where status is valued as highly as it is as other places. At other schools, I'm fairly certain you'd have a higher percentage of girls willing to kill themselves and go to the gym 3 hrs a day to make sure they stay in shape and look good. Girls will wear makeup more to class. Since, at Chicago, this stuff isn't valued as highly, you're not going to get as much conventional attractiveness all over the place.

This being said, when I was at Chicago, there were quite a few "nerd chic" girls walking around (think the whole "Tina Fey" look). I liked that a lot, and it appealed to me a lot about the U of C. There were a lot of pretty - but I don't yet know I'm pretty - bookish girls all over the place. For flat out model looks, or even conventional pretty looks, definitely go to UVA or USC. U of C is NOT anywhere near that level, and people just don't care about that as much. If you go for more of the Tina Fey type (I think she is pretty good looking btw), U of C is a good place.

Apparently, from what my female friends have mentioned, the Chicago guys arent exactly lotharios either. It's not really a place for beautiful people, and you're not gonna get a bunch of really good looking Vanderbilt-type sorority girls walking around. It's just not the nature of the school.

It is not really appropriate for a parent to involve himself in a thread like this. I am not going to comment on the "hotness" of my daughter and her friends. But, to second something Cue7 says, I think any objective observer would conclude that the women at Chicago are more attractive than the men, if only because almost all of them look like they shower regularly and change their clothes from time to time.

Also, I would note that God (or Evolution) did a great deal of work to ensure that, whatever gender/orientation attracts you, you would find a bunch of attractive people wherever you are. And, as a backstop, God (or Evolution) created beer. Not being attracted to anyone -- that's just not a real-world problem.

Where can this data be found? One more way for CC to rank schools!

^^JHS, that post was hilarious on so many levels.

i'd also like to know about that abstinence study...i'm gonna make it a point to take that with a grain of salt until i can actually see the data.

I have yet to find it. Admittedly, I cannot even remember when or through what medium I learned this little piece of knowledge. But it could be worse...

Great posts, folks. Makes me miss my undergrad days - not at Chicago...

On a serious note, consider that UofC is not the only game in town. You have Depaul a short train ride away. You have Northwestern a bit further. Then you have Columbia (the other one...), Loyola, UIC and a few others in between.

This discussion has become very interesting. So what I have gotten from this discussion is that:

UofC girls are different from girls at UVa and UCLA.

The girls at UofC are decent; there are plenty of pretty ones and cute ones but also some that are not so pretty, but that most of them have good personalities.

Second highest abstinence percentage in the US (not confirmed though).

Most UofC girls do not care as much for there appearance as do girls from other Universities.

Is that a fair assessment based on our discussion? Feel free to add/edit.
