Not that this would keep me from applying, but seriously, are they?

Some are, some aren't.

"Not that this would keep me from applying"

Why wouldn't this keep you from applying? ;)

To echo corranged....

Girls here are not "pretty" in that most don't doll themselves up. Considering that any random sample of people at UChicago or elsewhere is going to have some absurdly handsome people and others not as much, we look average.

My dad is convinced that if you were at a party with both Chicago kids and kids from another school, and given that everybody was similarly dressed, you would not be able to tell the difference between a Chicagoan and a kid from another school.

Omg, lets not go through this again.

I think I look pretty good.

someone asked this a while ago, and someone else posted a link where some UChicago student took pictures from the facebooks of guys and girls from 10 different highly-selective universities and put them on hotornot.com... the girls for UC got dead last. But the guys' had an even lower average ranking, so you won't have as much competition :]

I agree with the previous posters parent. If you were at a party with girls from several selective schools, you could not tell Chicago girls from other girls. I suspect that the facebook pictures were not randomly selected, but were selected to justify someone's hypothesis. I have relatives at numerous campuses and have been to them on many occasions. The only real difference that I would agree with is that girls at Chicago are not as interested in fancy clothing and accessories, makeup, etc. But that is part of the atmosphere at Chicago and has nothing to do with natural beauty.

Yeah, that bit came from my father when comparing his school, my older brother's school (both comparable to Chicago in many ways and both considered "better looking") and Chicago.

The real difference is indeed in the dress code at Chicago-- there is no minimum "dress-up" for either girls or guys, although some girls and guys do choose to consistently exceed expectations :-)

I also know exactly one "preppy" girl here, (she's somebody who has about as much natural beauty as anybody else but stays impeccably groomed, thus enhancing her qualities) and though I love her dearly, she looks like Alice in Wonderland when she walks around campus.

I would add that you don't have to study at Hogwarts to know the magic formula for multiplying the number of attractive people in the world -- girls, boys, whatever it is you're wired for:

-- dim lights
-- a number of people together
-- music
-- mild intoxicants
-- flirting

I don't recommend abusing the magic too much, but from early adolescence to the very doorstep of senectitude I have never seen it fail. There is no need to live without attractive people around.

lol, JHS, how right you are.

Encore, JHS!

lol true, true. plus , there's always the city.. i guess now all i have to worry about it getting in :(

Smart girls are ALWAYS attractive!

JHS, that was brilliant.

Agreed. In fact, enough of each of those (especially #4) will make girls, boys, or whichever one you're not wired for look especially good. ;)
