I always hear about the high ranking science and engineering programs but, what about the social sciences: Philosophy,Political Science, Economics, Sociology and Ethic Studies

Anyone ..... :(

My D is a Philosophy major at UW (sophomore) and loves every minute of it. She also took some wonderful courses in Political Science. They have an excellent major in International Studies that is hard to get into and requires 2 years of language. It's pretty intense, but students who are in it love it. If you are considering it, start taking classes in it right away, because it's a challenging program. Most of Political Science courses are focused on US, because International Studies department does all the foreign stuff. Another major that gets great reviews and has a small department is LSJ (Law, Society, and Justice).

At UW, you apply to be in your major sometime in your sophomore year (after completing the pre-reqs). Some departments are more competitive than others and require a higher entry GPA. All the info is on the web for each major.
