Are econ majors still getting interviews? It seems like every 5 years or so - there are big layoffs on Wall Street and then everyone is rehired again. But - is this downturn different?

I asked a friend about this. He is in class of '08 and he said that it did make quite a mess of things: people were scrambling left and right to make plans for the future. Since Wall Street isn't in a hiring 'mood' right now, a lot of the students that would have done finance related work are going to grad school or doing other things like TFA, consulting, etc.

Thus those fields are overcrowded and extremely competitive. It didn't sound like a very good year overall

no, there is no reason at all to believe this downturn is different.

I hear something different. My cousin is an 09 and she has had 3 Wall Street internships (traded in her AP's for an extra term off)...and her friends have had no trouble at all. She says a lot of these jobs are Greek-driven for both male and female.
