Hi All! Thank you for your help! I was wondering when/how the admissions committee will notify us? I'm applying to a lot of schools and I wasn't sure how Duke does it. Through the website/email/mail?

When? I have no idea the exact date, but it’s sometime in mid to late March I think. Precise date to be released as it draws closer

How? Admissions office will send you an email as the time draws close telling you when and how to access your decision letter online. Decision letters are released via the Duke admissions website at 6pm on the designated date. If you can’t access the website, you can also call for a decision on the following day. Finally, a physical letter (and IIRC your financial aid package) will be mailed to you in an acceptance packet a bit after that.

Thank you SBR!

^^The mailed acceptance letter is, of course, assuming you’re accepted :)

also, the duke admissions website will [probably] crash as it seems to have done the past 3 yrs. when i got my decision back in 07, it took me an hour (not kidding) to get from logging in to getting to my decision page. from comments on CC in 08 and 09, the same thing happened those yrs.

It’s funny, you would think these top schools have enough engineers that they can prevent this from happening.

Really? This is very singular, I didn’t have a huge problem getting on. Maybe I didn’t log on right as the crush began at 6pm.

The same thing happens with the registration system on ACES every semester too, glad I never have to do that again. Ugh.

Edit: yeah, you’d think they would anticipate this, but I’ll chalk it up to them just not needing the heavy duty industrial strength high capacity servers for that kind of situations. I mean this kind of stuff only happens a few times a year and requires a ton of maintenance and IT support. It would be somewhat impractical to expect Duke to dump all this resource into their infrastructure just so the applicants can find out their decisions at 6:00PM instead of 6:05PM. Plus, they have enough trouble just handling the data systems they have on hand, every other week they have to send out emails about that data center in CIEMAS or something.

^that made me LOL

lol - I’ve never gotten this, thankfully…
The Pratt mailing list is the worst thing ever thought up by any single group of people.

This past registration period, one of the junior windows had to be moved back due to server errors, and I just happened to be in that group to wake up at 6:45 and not be able to register…

and OIT and the technical staff definitely would not be able to handle the maintenance and upkeeping of larger servers; they can barely keep the printers working in ePrint.
