How are you guys paying for college?

Right now I’m trying to enter some essay contests to get some scholarship money.

My grandpa is practically forcing me to agree to him paying for everything. Especially after I didn’t let him buy me a car (…he didn’t want to take my inability to drive legally as an excuse).

I want to contribute something, but I need to get a job first. Or a scholarship :P

By praying that schools appreciate my awful poorness and by working my tail off.

Have you won any scholarships yet? I entered 4 at least. And do 3 for my college due on the 5th. I jsut want at least 2k.

Parents. Don’t hate.

I applied for financial aid, however my parents are paying for the rest (including loans.)

If I go to Cambridge, pretty much all of the money is coming from an account that my mother inherited/money that my mother got from selling houses she inherited. She can afford to spend all of that money because she has a job and a husband who has a retirement account and can then spend my retirement account on herself. So, my parents/grandparents/aunt/great-grandparents (since my retirement account came, for the most part, from my extended family).

If I go to school in the US, I will likely get pretty significant financial aid for the first two years since my sister is also enrolled in college. After that, I’ll probably get none. I’m National Merit and National Achievement, so it’s twice as likely that I’ll get some scholarship money. One of the few schools to which I’ve applied that offers merit aid (UChicago) has offered me a $10,000 scholarship. The rest would come from my college account, which is, again, mostly from my aunt/grandparents/great-grandparents. Depending on which school I go to, I might have to take out a few loans.

I believe the USSR will cover my costs: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/873472-ussr-has-invaded-college-confidential-surrender-perish-under-ussr.html

From slave labor.

I have money from parents/grandparents available. However, I’m a tightfisted miser and it will take a great deal to make me hand over much cash. Right now I’m aiming for three possibilities:

Top school (basically just MIT) that I like enough to at least contemplate paying the rack rate.

Canadian school for about half the price of a top private in the US.

Decent US public with full ride scholarship or something close to it.

Scholarships.

EDIT: And government aid.

I’m going to take a gap year to ho myself out to pay for college.

In reality, it depends on where I go to college.

I haven’t won any yet (results haven’t been announced).

QuestBridge!

Need-based/merit aid and parents.
