How are you living green?

Because of environmental issues and rising energy costs, people are going green. It's also not for hippie tree huggers anymore. So what have you or your family done to go green?

I realized that I can also be an ******* while not driving aggressively. I never go above the speed limit when it wastes too much gas, and I force people to go around me. Sometimes I go side by side with a person in the right lane on a two-lane road so no one behind us can pass us. It's also fun driving 65mph on the fast lane on I-95. I get a whole lot of road rage from doing that. I also like to draft behind big semi-trucks.

I wish I could ride my bicycle around town, but it takes at least a 30 minute ride in a car to get anywhere in Jacksonville.

I walk to work (only a block away, not a hard sacrifice), take quick showers, refrain from driving like a maniac, and don't leave doors open, i.e. for the refrigerator or house, especially when the AC is on. I guess I don't really make too much of an effort. I have put energy efficient bulbs in my room, even if the rest of the house still has the old kind.

Don't draft behind semis. That's just dangerous. I'd rather be an energy hog than be dead. And, actually, you should go OVER the speed limit if the limit is less than 40 mph. Cars get the best mileage between 45-50 mph.

Take quick showers, buy local food, recycle obviously, bring my own bags to the grocery store, ride my bike or walk whenever possible, try to avoid stopping at all costs (like rolling and not coming to a complete stop), using water bottles that aren't plastic (the hard ones you can reuse), not using AC, unplugging everything when I'm not using it, using energy efficient bulbs, etc.

It's really hard to drive 55 here though, in MI NOBODY goes 55 on main roads let alone on the freeway. They will literally run you over if you go under 70 on the freeway :(. Therefore, I avoid the freeways at all possible costs.

I walk and take the bus all the time, unplug things from outlets when not in use, reuse water bottles and plastic containers, make an effort to recycle whenever the proper receptacles are available. It's not much, I should try to be more green.

I convinced my parents to switch to CFLs, I turn off the computer monitor if I'm going to be away for a few+ minutes, and I am using a reusable water bottle. Also, instead of using aerosol hair spray, I use those containers that do that spritzing thing.

I don't have a license, so I walk and take buses anyway. I'm lucky I'm in a relatively small town, so usually I just walk. :)

nothing really. i do use the cfl bulbs, but a main part of that is because they last much longer and changing them is a pain.

liist, i'm the person behind you on 95 touching your bumper, high beams, middle finger, cursing... gas is still cheap here, my car was designed to drive on the autobahn: why not?

^ Define cheap?

compared to europe...

I'm not.

10 char

I don't know the I-95, but if the speed limit is 70 I really hope you get pulled over and get a ticket for this.
It's a fast lane for a reason- some people actually count on the fact that they can go at least the speed limit to get somewhere on time.
(For the record, if I'm going, say, 45 in a 35 or 40 and someone tries to pass me, I tend to be a bit vindictive and pace them. It's probably going to get me shot one day).

My dad has a lot of PV tags on his home. It saves a LOT of money on his energy bill (and saves a lot of energy too in an area where the electric company nearly shorts out every summer day).

I can't drive so I bike, take the bus or walk where I need to go. I keep a lunchbox instead of using paper bags. I have canvas bags for the grocery store. My water bottle is reusable and I like to shop at the farmers market way too much for my own good.

I actually only tried the fast lane ******* trick 2 times and I have stopped since. I still like to draft behind trucks, though. It has definitely made me a safer driver (I am fully aware that it's not safe).

When I have a time limit, I am not afraid to speed down the highway at 80+, but that usually means revving the RPM to at least 2,500.

Using less electricity around the house, reusing plastic bags and water bottles, and driving less (especially to close places).

I never use reusable plastic water bottles unless I'm traveling. I'm pretty content with a Nalgene and a water cooler in my house. I also refill those 5 gallon jugs at the filters at the grocery store.

My dad has started installing those new green lightbulbs that supposed use less power/wattage but produce the same lumonosity. On the other hand, ive learned economical ways to push my car to produce the maximum MPG ( replaced fuel filter, air filter, every 3k mile synthetic oil chance, properly inflated tires, fuel injection service)

I love going to the local Farmer's Market. It's nice to support the local economy than, oh, WalMart.

My car was designed for the Autobahn too, and I don't like to waste that nice engine :] and yeah, gas is extremely cheap here compared to Euro gas.

But on another note, to be green, I take really short showers, rarely stop my car [like... I slow down so early that I don't have to stop], walk places sometimes, rarely have the lights on, recycle EVERYTHING recyclable, don't drink bottled water, I keep the thermostat at 82 in the summer, 60ish in the winter [yeah crazy try it yourself], I don't use paper bags either for lunches - I'll reuse a lunchbag thing, I get my oil changed on time, tired replaced when they need it, don't keep any extra weight in my car. :] ta-dah

I try to walk short distances, because as u know, a lot of people these days take their car to distances that can be covered by 5~10 minutes of walking. I probably do a lot of other stuff I'm unaware of, and some stuff that I'm not quite sure if I'm being "green" or not.

You can't walk anywhere in Jacksonville, unless you live in certain expensive or noisy neighborhoods. Closest store to my house is 2 miles. The whole road is filled with residential subdivisions.

I'll be honest and say I absolutely hate the whole "going green" thing. It's such a trend now and people are freaking wearing recycle shirts when you know they don't give a damn and all over magazines and TV they're all like "oh we're going green now buy our product and do this and that"! It's such a TREND. Now I know this is a good trend and I have nothing against helping the environment but the "going green" thing is getting ridiculously fake. Helping the environment is great but I just hate how people are doing it because other people are doing it and that name "going green". Ugh.
