How bad will a criminal record effect me when i apply to college

I'm a sophomore in high school and i have a class B misdemeanor for theft. How bad will this effect on my college application?

It honestly depends on the specific school. They want you to be completely honest, however, about all things you have done.

My suggestion is to keep a strong academic record, take rigorous classes that test the top of your ability, and volunteer at places that prevent theft for young kids. Show that you have turned yourself around to become a better person, and society should welcome you back with open arms, acknowledging you maturation.

If you can do this and turn yourself around from the time when you committed the crime, whether or not it was just an impulsive mistake, you can make an excellent college essay out of this. You can display to the colleges that you are a different, better person than you were at that time.

Not to say that crime is a good thing, but you can definitely display easily how that event altered your perspective on life.

Just some things to think about.

Go for what you desire and do whatever is necessary to achieve that goal.

Thanks for the advice this will surely help me in the future!
