How bad will this hurt of my chances of admission for senior year

My sophmore year was the highest gpa i had so far with about 2.9 but this year i had a very rough first semester near as bad as my freshman year and i struggled with my AP U.S history class and chemistry. If i end up with about 3.0 Gpa for the second half will highest semester grade for all my 3 years so far will that make up for rough first semester. if i retake the SAT in august and score 1400 will i have a chance to get into Queens College or City college for architecture. If i end junior year 2nd semester average of 2.45 and senior year 3.6 first half. My overall gpa will be around 2.7 for high school and possibly 1400 sat scores. If i have good recommendation letters from my teachers and have a essay including personal and reasons why my gpa was low will i have a good shot to get in either Queens College or CCNY.

What’s your current sat score?

Is that GPA W or UW?

like a 1000 but im retaking it in August and aiming for 1400

i think weighted i have one weighted class only

According to collegesimply, a 1400 on your SAT will grant you very good chances at Queens College with chances over 53% probably no doubt you will get in with a 1400, but your 2.7 GPA will hurt your chances by a lot. Collegesimply stats (whether if they are reliable are not) says that 0% of Freshman are within range for Queens College with a 2.75 GPA or lower. However, this does not mean you will not be accepted. With the grades you predict, you are telling your colleges “I am very smart, but I do not put in the work in class”, but you say that you have a reason for your GPA. If your reasoning can truly prove that the sole reason why you weren’t able to have a higher GPA whether it be a disability or traumatic event, then your chances might increase. I would say your chances are below or around average of making it. In the end don’t worry too much and remember that as long as you put in the hard work you can make it anywhere.

^except the odds of a student going from mid 50% to top 5% in 2 months on the SAT is almost nil. Making plans on a 1400 is akin to castles on a cloud. Most students, working hard every day, improve by 100 points. An extremely disciplined, focused student who preps several hours a day for two months might be able to go +200.
But for now, OP should focus on finding colleges that will admit him/her with a 2.9/1000.
Queens would be a match, CCNY a reach.
Do you have budget? Will you be using the “free tuition” Excelsior scholarship and commuting from home? Or are you living elsewhere in NYS (or not in NYS)?

Going from 1000-1400 is a pretty big leap. Not to doubt your abilities, but I am doubtful that will happen.

Even if you got a 1400 on the SAT, Queens would be an extreme reach.

I’m not really sure what @MYOS1634 is looking at. Queens gets a 64/100 score on USNews, which is higher than schools like UT-Austin (which is 60/100 score, ranked #56 nationally). This means that OP is looking at a top 50 school (USNews doesn’t show Queens national ranking). Not sure how that is a match for OP (especially with a 2.7 weighted GPA).

On the cappex chart, even if OP gets a 1400 on the SAT, he only has a 5-10% chance of getting in (with a 2.7 GPA). If he maintains his 1000 SAT, he might as well not apply.

Also, Queens is ranked higher than CCNY. So how is it possible for Queens to be a match for OP, yet CCNY is a reach???

^ look at the CDS instead of not-very-solid-at-best rankings, and you’ll see. You can also look at the SUNY/CUNY chart for other numbers.
Ccny is harder to get into than Queens and neither is anywhere near UT.

@MYOS1634

Not sure what CDS is, can’t find it on google either (also can’t find the SUNY/CUNY chart). However, I believe you are right, it appears their average SAT is pretty low (~1100). No idea why USNews scores them so damn high.

On Forbes College Rankings, Queens is still above CCNY.
