1600sat/3.8 gpa, but i had undiagnosed ADHD which is something my GC is also writing about–i was diagnosed before the start of this year, and my senior year grades are all A+ at a school notorious for grade deflation. I think i have pretty good ECs.
i was suspended my junior year for throwing a condom at my friend at school
when given the chance to own up, i didnt. got suspended for a day.
is this going to kill my chances at t20s?
i have an opportunity to intern at a large asset management firm for the whole year–should i take a gap year, since the 2021-2022 commonapp isn’t asking about discipline?
Don’t take a gap year unless you want to. Answer truthfully. The consequences are a lot steeper if colleges find out you submitted a fraudulent application after-the-fact. This is a very minor infraction in the grand scheme of things. A mea culpa in the “anything else we should know” section is fine. If you don’t get into a T20 college, I doubt this is what will be the thing that keeps you out.
It sounds like your GC has a plan. You might have your parents ask to take it off the transcript. In my state, public HSs aren’t allowed to put disciplinary issues on transcripts.
Honestly, I doubt a one-day suspension will raise any major red flags.
If the infraction is on your transcript, not sure how taking a gap year helps? And, FWIW, it’s most likely the CA disciplinary question is gone forever.
I’m waiting to see whether or not said incident is going to be on my transcript (I’m assuming it is). If it’s not, would it still be dangerous to say that I was never suspended?
Also, since it was a condom, is it going to be viewed as a sexual harassments incident? I’m worried that anything related to that will completely ruin me.
@Mwfan1921 thank you! I’m a bit worried about incident coming off as sexual harassment. i’m not sure if it’ll be listed on my transcript or not yet (i’m assuming it is). Do you think that the “sexual” part of the incident is gonna make AOs throw away my app??
If the college asks the question, answer truthfully. As I said, the consequences can be worse later. Find out if it will be on your transcript, then work out a strategy with your GC for colleges that don’t ask about it at all. I would be surprised if they don’t ask (or at least ask about past charges for crimes and misdemeanors). They bear some responsibility for keeping students safe on campus. Your situation poses no risk to other students nor to the academic integrity of the university at large, so it is probably going to be dismissed as no more than an immature moment. I doubt it would be considered “sexual harassment” unless the recipient of the thrown condom has already labeled it as such.
I assumed it was a packaged condom. Unless it was your own used condom (and why would you provide that detail), I would assume you were just being silly.
