Hello everyone,
Sorry to be a bother but I need help. I was suspended for one day for truancy. I had forgotten my homework at home and during break period, I went home to retrieve it and returned before my next class started. This was about a 20 minute trip. I was caught in the school parking lot and suspended for one day, though I was able to turn in my homework and get credit for it. I was suspended for violating my schools closed campus terms. I am aware that I am able to explain myself on Common App but based on what I’ve read, it will still have an impact on my acceptance percentage. I am really stressed out. I have had a clean record before this and am an A student with half of my classes being honors or AP. My SAT is currently at 1400. Will this suspension be overlooked if I can explain it or will it severely impact my application?
Assuming this is the full story, I don’t think this will be what blocks you.
I don’t think this is a big issue. Meet with your guidance counselor to ease your concerns.
You will have to report it on college applications, but a short explanation and a mea culpa and it isn’t going to affect your odds.
Was texting your parents and asking them to call you out of school for 20 minutes not an option? Did you have any other option besides sneaking out? It seems you panicked instead of thinking things through.
First off talk to your counselor if it will actually be put on any official report that would be sent to colleges. Secondly talk to them if they will explain it away in their report to the colleges if it will. Maybe talking to your counselor or teacher directly on how to handle this situation would of been a better solution? Following rules is important. Don’t think this one single incident will be a factor when applying to college.
