Do high-tier colleges (HYPMS, top 10 LACs) really see any difference betweeen a 3.99 GPA and a 4.0? A class rank of 1 and 5?

Well, I think being a valedictorian carries some weight, but between being ranked 4 or 5 or something little like that, I seriously doubt it matters. Colleges want to see growth, so if you got a B in a really challenging course, or improved second semester or what have you, that may be just as good as another A. If you're meeting all of the academic criteria, I think it really comes down to the essays, letters, extracurrics, and mostly something that just makes you outstanding and unique. If you're within the range, I think you're qualified for further consideration. Chill

My college counselor says that GPA only affects about 25% of most college's decision of whether they accept someone or not. Just keep that in mind; GPA isn't everything.

southeasttitan, does your school weight grades?

Unfortunately not. :( Otherwise I would definitely be ranked first, I took two college classes as a junior, three as a senior, and have gotten 5s on 3 APs. But yeah. Unweighted only.

Unless your class size is under 49, it doesnt matter at ALL unless to the most insane adcom (and if they are truly that insane you wouldnt want to go to their crappy college anyway). because its so minor of a difference that no one would really look at it at all.

Of course, #1 and 4.0 technically looks more impressive than 3.99 and #5, but it makes absolutely 0 difference when it comes down to rating the academics.

not much difference dont sweat it
