How boring is orientation going to be?

It seems like Orientation is a 10-hour event from 8am-6pm… wow. Has anyone here already done transfer orientation? I’m very awkward in real life lol so I hope I’m not surrounded by perky student body council members having to do weird trust exercises :/

Most importantly, will there be free food lol

Haha. Yes the program itself may be boring! I’ve never done transfer orientation. I’d say just take it in for what it is: a potentially boring structure, but great chance to meet fellow classmates: most of whom will likely feel the same way you do. Folks will be looking to make friends and have conversations. Just remember you are totally adequate for this day. Besides, we are all awkward in our own unique ways, and this is a good thing :-)

“Most importantly, will there be free food”

The only important question ;)

It’s actually very informative. You start off in the student center where there will be some donuts and refreshments and they give you a general history of the school and what you should expect. You’ll then be broken up into your individual colleges whom you will spend the rest of the day with. You’ll learn about the classes that you need to take and meet your student advisers. At some point you’ll go back to the student center for lunch (its included with your orientation fee payment). The end of the day will be where you choose your classes and then go get your student ID.

It really isn’t that bad. Its pretty informative and you get to meet people in your major. No trust exercises or anything. Just pure information and preparing you for what you are in store for.

for 80ish dollars there better be a meal! :}

Thanks tehjoadsta, that actually doesn’t sound bad at all :)

hahaha I’ll be expecting lobster…

OMG guys. Im so jealous!!! My status is still showing “application received”.

what do you guys think of my chance of getting in as Hospitality (hotel management) program with gpa 2.83?

@cheryang18: Slim, I would guess? Maybe if you’re local? I don’t know that major’s standards, but I would expect they get a lot of applicants for that major and are a little more selective.

By the way, I enjoyed my transfer orientation over the summer in 2012. There was a lot of talking you listened to, but they gotta get everyone up to speed in one day. I felt pretty welcomed by the school and actually happier that I came to Cal Poly Pomona. I got to know some of my fellow transfer students and I’ve seen them in all of my classes now that I met at orientation. If I remember correctly, we had subway for lunch. There was snacks and stuff later on.

you already got accepted for fall 2014?

Freshmen orientation is different than transfer orientation. Freshmen orientation is 3 days(2 nights) long compared to transfer orientation of just 1 day(0 nights). I’m 99% sure they include meals within the orientation, at least for freshmen orientation. During the freshmen orientation there’s the normal important stuff like any other college, but the rest of your day will be doing activities, learning about clubs, socializing, and etc. You don’t actually go back to your dorm until 8-9pm at night. I might have the orientation guide that says the entire schedule for all 3 days if anyone wants me to post it.
