What happens at the transfer orientation?

My orientation is on the 18th of this month, and I don't know why I'm so apprehensive. I've read the program details on the orientation website. But is it as bad and boring as people say it is? Do they give us a tour around the campus? Also, is there anything I should bring other than a backpack and my laptop?

it's pretty boring. they have different presentations about different stuff. i forgot if there was a campus tour, i don't think so. laptop is basically all you need just so you don't have to wait for a computer.

Very boring, and I wish I had brought my laptop.

You get there, check in at Royce Hall, and they hand you a bunch of info about UCLA, including who's your orientation counselor. You then go to the orientation and they talk about what being a Bruin means blah blah blah. When you get out there are your OCs with their names on posters and you meet up with whoever your counselor is.

From there you meet and greet with them and the other people that are in your group. Go to lunch with them, ask questions, get familiar with your new school. You then go to your major's building for a meeting about what's required from you to complete your major. After this you will meet up with your OC and they will tell you to go pick out your schedule. This is where your laptop comes in. Normally, they send you into a room with printed lists of all classes posted all over the room, with people crowding around them. Just use your laptop and confer with some of the papers to see if they are both up-to-date.

Now that you have your classes picked out, you can either leave or wait around until 8PM when you pick your classes. I stayed and I got to pick my classes first, so I got in all of mine, but it's different for everyone. If you have time, I would just leave and do it from home.

Everything in between is pretty much random workshops if you want to go, but it is very boring. No campus tours, so when you have time in between you can walk around if you want. Have fun...

Thanks a whole bunch! I'll be sure to charge my laptop. You'd think they'd give you a tour of the place...

I know!

I wonder what our $125 goes toward.... the 8 dollar lunch? the 10 dollar dinner? the catalog? the bag? >.<

They have to pay the people hosting the orientation...

Are they still giving out the General Catalog that you never ever touch again? :( Because that's like a waste of $20...

The academic planner they give out is super useful, though. Does any new Bruin not want theirs? I really want one!! :) I've been a very helpful Current Bruin, haven't I???

Yes...that catalog i never opened but was included in my cost anyways...

waste of time and money... it's crap

academic planner??? lol i never got one

At least the campus is nice, yes yes? :D

Think I'll wander around and give myself a tour while I'm there...

^Yes, yes. ;)

I was unlucky and went on a date where they RAN OUT of planners! >.< I bet that was a good 8+ bucks, too!
