How can I bring my weighted GPA up from a 3.6?

I’ve completed 3 semesters of high school so far, so i am a sophomore. I always had straight As and high Bs but this year i got my first Cs as a semester grade. I am in Algebra 2 Honors and Chemistry Honors and ended with a C and C+. How can i bring these up to at least B-'s and how can i bring my weighted GPA up? I generally have B+'s, A-'s, and A’s in all my other classes which are honors as well.

The first thing I would do is ask the teachers for help, when convenient for them. Some can do this during a free period or right after/before school. You could also get a tutor. Our school offers free tutoring by National Honor Society students who are in advanced classes. Many students may not know it’s available but you could check with your guidance office or sponsor of NHS. You could also pay for a private tutor. Good luck!

It’s certainly possible to bring your gpa up significantly from this point. My daughter had a weighted 3.6 or so sophomore year, she brought it over a weighted 4.0 by senior year by taking a full slate of AP and honors classes as well as dual credit classes at the local community college over summers and during the semester. Obviously she had to achieve high grades in those classes, but she set a goal and was able to meet it.

Take AP courses and do well in them!

I would first focus on getting those grades up rather than your overall weighted GPA- colleges will see those two C’s and depending on where you want to be admitted they could significantly hurt you. Talk to your teachers IMMEDIATELY about extra help, extra credit opportunities etc.

For the future, I would recommend choosing honors/AP courses only in subjects where you feel confident you can do well- for example, I never took an AP science course (outside of AP Bio, which I am passionate about) because I struggle with many of the basic concepts in physics/chem. But, I took a lot of history and language APs.

You can take easy honors online classes via FLVS or whatever you prefer, I personally took Art History and Marine science and I heard that physical science and Earth science are also easy for honors classes
