Hi, currently I’m a undergraduate freshman at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and I absolutely hate it here. Besides it being mainly whites here it’s ridiculously expensive and the people here are absolutely rude. I’m miserable here and I’m having trouble getting through to my parents to let me transfer to Temple or University at Buffalo (which I had gotten into in my senior year of high school). They think that public colleges are for dumb people and that if I want to transfer I can’t go back home (which I have no problem with) and I have to pay for my own tuition ( which I have no problem with). I’m here because they want me to be here and I don’t want to. Besides, the price of tuition being extremely cheaper at a public university I can also actually enjoy being in college. I don’t want to spend 4 years at a college that I absolutely hate. Can someone help me please?
Can you actually afford to pay your own tuition? Are you sure those other schools will be cheaper as a transfer (much less merit aid)?
Yes, I can pay for the tuition the tuition at st. joes is almost 60k while the one at University at Buffalo is only 21k
So you, personally, can pay 21k a year for three years? Without any help from your parents?
If so, and you’re honestly fine with not having a relationship with them…seems doable.
Yea that’s possible. Thanks
My dd loved UB!
With all of the choices in California, she chose a SUNY school.

You are paying $60k for St. Joe’s or are your parents paying? If you’re paying, how are you paying? did you receive an inheritance?
If YOU alone are paying for St. Joe’s ($60k), then WHY would your parents say that if you transfer to a state school then YOU would have to pay? that makes no sense if YOU are paying either way.
