Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m a senior, so I’ve already submitted my apps. I’ve visited most of the schools I applied to. I’ve also emailed a few of my admissions officers. I’m especially worried about a few of my safeties–I’ve visited, attended info sessions, and emailed, but I didn’t interview at 2 out of 3 of them.
When I’m emailing admissions officers, is it weird if I explicitly state my interest (“I’m very excited about the prospect of attending X College”) before I ask my question(s)? And can I email about little things (like the fact that I am no longer applying for financial aid but in my app portal it says my financial aid docs are still missing)? And will sending these emails actually demonstrate interest? And how else can I demonstrate interest? Considering I just got deferred EA at NEU (after showing virtually zero interest) ANY suggestions are appreciated (since I’m kind of freaking out that I didn’t demonstrate enough interest).
I would not email an admission officer about those issues. I’m pretty sure the office itself has a general email, so email that one. As for emails about like interest, I would ask questions first then state your interest. Otherwise, it comes off as a bit cliche right off the bat. I would ask questions like, “What’s the research experience like at X college/university?” I have not applied to college, so don’t take my advice as set in stone, but just something to consider from an outside perspective.
signing up for a college’s mailing list is always a good thing, though i think it’s too late for that. opening colleges’ emails is also a good thing.
if you email your admissions officers, make sure you ask questions that are not generic. in other words, if you can find the answer(s) to your question(s) on the school’s website, do not email your admissions officer. they know bologna questions when they see them.
