How can I get in?

I'm currently a junior. White, female, really good school and area but my dad's unemployed and my mom is a teacher so we're not good on money right now. I live in Southern California.

Sophomore year:
UC GPA: 3.3
Took one AP Class (all that was available)
AP European History - 5
Staff writer for the school newspaper (we're one of the best in the nation, won awards for years, blah blah blah)
Sporadic volunteer hours through my church

Junior year:
My GPA right now is about a 4.3/4.5
Three AP Classes
Copy editor for the school paper
President of the Better Image of Beauty Club, a club I created
I'm going on a Europe trip this summer with my school
Sporadic volunteer hours

What should I work on/do to help my chances? I'm going to enter into journalism competitions at conferences and stuff. What else? I really want to get in.

If I keep my 4.3 for all of junior year, I'll have an overall UC GPA of 3.8. But will they notice how much better I'm doing this year? Sophomore year was hell; depression, cutting, suicide attempts. Not very fun. I don't want to go into details explaining this to the college but should I?

Alright thanks :]

Oh, and the APs I’m taking this year are AP English Language, AP US History, and AP Psychology. I’m planning on taking a class next year at the local community college and other APs. I’m also going to be a page editor or something for the newspaper.

With a 3.8, you should likely be fine. Just rock the SATS. I got in with a 3.4 UC GPA and 1770 SATs, so ANYTHING is possible.

I took the PSAT this year so I’m going from there. I’m a really good test taker so I’m hopefully gonna do well on my ACT/SAT. I really want to get in!
