How can I improve my 1510 to >2000

I'd like to push these scores to >2000.

06/2009, SAT Test

440 Reading
490 Math
580 Writing

These are the scores I received without study, they total 1510/2400 and 930/1600. Quite frankly, they're embarrassing. However, I have most of the summer left and am taking the fall off to study for this test.

My weak area is math, I've never been very good at it. As far as the CR section goes, the vocabulary really tripped me up a lot. Lastly, writing: This section I should be able to tackle on my own, so I'm not immensely worried.

Essay: 10/12

@dylandlima: I’ll be going into college starting Spring 2011.

bump10char

I suggest BARRON’S Math Workbook, it helped me to increase my Math score from 460 to 690.If you want to learn theory I would suggest Grubbers or BARRON’S 2005 edition.(they contains all you need to know) If you will know it, your score will be 750+.
About CR, I don’t know, I cannot suggest.
WR review Silverturtle’s guide.

Math

I suggest using “Amsco’s Preparing for the Sat I: Mathematics” ([Amazon.com: Amsco’s Preparing for the Sat I: Mathematics (9781567655803): Richard Andres: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Amscos-Preparing-Sat-I-Mathematics/dp/1567655807)). It is organized by topic and actually teaches the concepts to you. You seem to be doing a lot of guess as well. Never blindly guess an answer. Always see if you can narrow down the answers. If you can’t narrow down the answer choices, DO NOT GUESS. Math is easy to improve in.

Writing

I used to get terrible scores in writing. I found that I improved the most by just reading the questions carefully. Often time, we will find errors by looking closely. The more you practice the better you will be. As far as the essay goes, don’t waste time writing a 20 page novel. Make sure your essay is concise and to the point.

CR

The most difficult section to improve on. Study vocab, do practice problems and GO OVER YOUR MISTAKES.

I suggest you buy this book:
[Amazon.com: The Ivy Insiders Guide to the SAT: Nicholas Green: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Ivy-Insiders-Guide-SAT/dp/B002AJLZPI)

It helped me and everyone else I know who used it tremendously. I know about 20 people who did. 18 of them scored 2100 or above. its called “the ivy insiders guide to the SAT” it was written by ivy league students who cracked the SAT. Its a great book.

The advice you are receiving, although may have helped that person, may not be the BEST advice out there. This is my opinion.

First and foremost, get the Collegeboard Blue book. Second, read through http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/955109-silverturtles-guide-sat-admissions-success.html</a></p>

MATH
Get Gruber’s Math Workbook. This should bump your score up to a 650+. Also practice from the practice tests in the Blue Book.

WRITING
Read through [SAT: Improve SAT Score with SparkNotes: Introduction](<a href=“SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides”>SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides)

CRITICAL READING
Using silverturtle’s guide should help. Do Practice sections in the Blue Book.

MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL: REVIEW EACH AND EVERY ANSWER, RIGHT OR WRONG. Limit yourself to 3 sections a day, so your brain continues to work efficiently. Take a full length practice test every 2 weeks. I think you can achieve your goal, if you stay determined.

@Schoolisfun. When you say “three sections a day” do you mean one math section, one cr and one writing?

^All same subject, so it’s easier for your brain. On Writing days, I suggest 2 sections of Writing and then reading Direct Hits.

I suggest you know the word roots, before you do the vocabulary. The word roots helped me a lot. Here are the word roots. I noticed I got to eliminate more choices, improving my chances of getting a question right even if I don’t know the vocabulary with the word roots.

[SAT: Improve SAT Score with SparkNotes: Dealing with Words You Don?t Know](<a href=“SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides”>SparkNotes: Today's Most Popular Study Guides)

Try to also read Spark Notes whole guide on the SAT. It was proved to be very useful to me for the SAT.

@schoolisfun. what is direct hits?

It is a vocabulary book for the SAT. One of the most accurate vocab books to say the least.

@Atul92: A new edition is going to be released soon, the 2011 edition, so you may wish to wait for that or order the 2010 edition. There are 2 volumes: Core Vocab and Tough Words; get both.

@Schoolisfun: How do you suggest reviewing the answers you got correct?

Just go through the explanations that are provided and make sure you completely understand why the question is right.
