Need help improving my SAT score

Hello!
I got 1610/2400 on my first SAT. I put in a LOT of effort in preparation. I prepared for about 3 months. I used the Princeton Review(2013) edition. I didn't have the official SAT guide.
I read the entire Princeton Review guide, followed all their techniques and practiced all the 4 tests included in the guide. In the practice tests I scored between 1400-1500.
I didn't do that well on my real SAT and was very disappointed. I find math easy but for some reason(probably overconfidence) I messed up my Math Section too!

My Sections scores are as follows-
Critical Reading 480
Math 630
Writing 500 (Multiple Choice-48, Essay-8)

After writing the practice tests, I go through the answer key and read the answer explanation for the right and wrong answers.
I guess I lost all my points in the passage questions. I messed it up real bad.

How do I improve my SAT score? I want to get above 2200 in my next SAT! Need all the help I can get. What can I do? What guides/books do I need?

Silverturtle’s and Xiggi have good guides. Writing I would recommend the Barron’s writing workbook.

Go on sparknotes for the writing rules. Try to get your writing mc up a lot, an 800 in writing would pull you all the way up to a 1910

What year (freshman, sophomore, etc…) did you take the SAT in which you got a 1610?

Hey hang in there! I got 1700s at first too, but I eventually got up to 2100s.

First of all, do not use Princeton Review for Reading, they sucks for low scorer. They deliberately try to cajole u into using their nonsense strategies. I should know because for a while I was their victim

The real trick is twofold. First, start reading voraciously, and by that I mean u should be readin at least 50 page a day if you ever hope to get 750s. Second, only do exams in the blue book because thats the only source that helped. After u finish, try to understand why u got them wrong. Again, u have to really understand it. If u do this correctly, u’ll finally come to the realization that the test isn’t about reading, it’s much more about logic. Once u get that, u’ll score much higher. As for the approach, only u can figure it out. (But the approach can only works if u can adequately understand the passage. Your score suggests the otherwise). I, though, recommend http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

For math, use PWN the SAT. Its like 7 bucks on Google play. study it for at least 3 hours a day over 2 or 3 months time.

As for reading, I found the Ultimate Guide to SAT Writing and barron writing workbook to be Godsent, too. They break downs everything for u.

Good luck!
