I got into a very pricey college which I would love to attend. They did not offer me financial aid, but a similarly (actually slightly lower) priced college gave me 15k yearly in grant aid. This amount of aid + my merit scholarship would make college #1 affordable and actually an option for me.
Is it too late to negotiate with their finaid department? Or was there ever a time when I could? And how do I go about doing that?
What college? Some will reconsider…and some won’t.
If you are asking if your top choice will consider another award…only if this is considered a peer school. It doesn’t sound like that is the case.
It’s Kenyon college in Ohio. What is a peer school and is this one?
We need to know what both schools are.
My bad-- Kenyon is the one I am trying to get aid from. I received a 15k scholarship from them but no need-based aid. Davidson says I’m eligible for a 15k grant.
Apparently I don’t know how this works//see my last post on the other thread about paying for a top-choice college
Davidson has more generous need based aid than Kenyon…but you certainly can ask.
It sounds like you got $15,000 scholarship from Kenyon, and $15,000 grant from Davidson.
That’s the same dollar amount.
I asked my friend who was also accepted to Kenyon and they said they received merit aid stacked on top of their EFC-based estimation of need. But maybe the school calculated them as having an EFC 15k lower than the FAFSA did?
Financial aid is a mystery to me
But I guess I’ll contact the aid department to see what’s up.
Nothing bad could come of that right?
