How can some of you guys take 5 and 6 AP classes a year?

How can some of you take 5 and 6 AP classes a year while still doing extra curriculars? Do you have any free time whatsoever? I took 2 AP classes (US and European History) this year, and I had about 1 to 2 hours of homework from each, almost every night. Then all the books I had to read and papers to write, it was bad. I'm only taking 3 next year; I don't think I can handle any more than that.

How do you guys do it?

AP American and Euro are perhaps tnhe two most time consuming AP classes, math and science ones require much less effort.

some people have block schedule.

I’m taking 4, you just do it.

Ah my school doesn’t have a block schedule. That’d be really nice because it’s kind of like college

um srsly…i dont know wat i was thinking when i took 6 ap classes this year…mustve been out of my mind…
but anyways yeah u just do it…i have no life though…and my grades did suffer because i couldnt focus on any one particular class/work so i ended up with all Bs except like 2 As…sucks …yes very much
i recommend not doing it unless ur one of the supersmart ppl who like have really good memory and can read and memorize/retain very well
so…my gpa sucks…but its my fault…=/ cant do anything about it now…sigh

My cousin is taking 7 next year and like 3 or 4 more online, yeah he’s nuts.

See, at my school, maths and sciences are the hardest AP. The AP Bio kids had an absurd amount of homework every night, with projects due every two weeks.

I took AP Lit and APUSH this year. It was probably my worst year yet, haha.

I didn’t ever have block scheduling, so we had 6 classes each day. I took 1 AP sophomore year [world history] and that was a COMPLETE joke, I didn’t even feel a difference between that and taking all regular (gifted) classes. I had 4 APs junior year [latin vergil, us history, psychology, and physics b] and that was okay as well. I had 6 APs senior year [european history, english lit, latin lit, calculus BC, macroeconomics, us gov’t] and that really wasn’t that big of a deal either…
Mostly, the only problem that people seem to have is time to complete the homework/readings assigned. I never had that problem because I either 1) didn’t do the homework (lol?) or 2) did it during another class. Usually the latter. You’ll find that you have a LOT of freetime throughout the day to do homework/read. Between classes, during BORING/POINTLESS lectures, etc.

I’ve taken 5 aps for the last 2 years and have had an average workload of 1 hour each night.

I’m taking 4 classes and self-studying 3 more with friends…

and i do a ton of ECs

Not all schools are the same. Some schools have more workload for each AP class, some have less, it all depends =).
Anyway… coffee, lots and lots of coffee.

APUSH was a ton of work. Gov was like a sophomore history class… not too bad, and the work was fun. Calculus was a normal math course, basically. And English Lang/Comp was just reading and writing papers. I also did Model Congress, Model UN, Mock Trial, frequent volunteering, and Math comps. It’s not too bad. Just get used to little sleep.

Does taking 5 AP’s senior year instead of 6 or 7 affect your chances for top ivies?

If you have block scheduling, I think 5 AP classes… isn’t that much… I mean, it’s not impressive by any means (if your school offers many AP courses).

^^ As you know most colleges look for course rigor. Taking 5 is very impressive, and will probably gain you a similar if not, same advantage as if you took 7. The only difference is that you’ll be having a more enjoyable senior year. 7 is insane.

I took 4 AP classes this year and the workload was pretty hard. Next year I’m taking 6. I think alot of it varies depending on your teacher’s class difficulty, time management, and which courses you are taking. AP U.S History is one of the most time consuming, but any of the science AP classes are also time consuming. Then again, an AP Human Geography can be very time consuming depending on the class layout.

It’s especially hard to keep up with varsity sports, academic teams, debate, etc. Personally, I just don’t sleep. :(

~ Theos

I wanted to take 7, but the school won’t let me claiming I was kicking other people out of a spot in certain AP’s.

No matter how hard I try, 5 is the most i can take. I hope this won’t mess me up and portray me as a slacker…

Although Australia doesn’t use the same system, I’ve been in all the top classes from Year 8-10 and now I’m taking the hardest tertiary entrance subjects in Years 11 (now) and 12. The key is motivation and enjoying the subjects you do, as you’ll be far more inclined to be productive.

^Derivate, your schedule is evaluated in the context of your school. If you’re taking as many course as you can there is no way it will look bad. And lol @ even suggesting that 5 APs=slacker. I hope you’re just being dramatic, but then again this is CC.

I’m taking 7 this year. Next year it’s 6 + a college course after school.

It’s not that bad.
