I took 6 this year plus a college class in the second semester (Diff Eq’s). Frankly, the work load isn’t that tough. Only the English classes really gave a lot of work (I also took 4 in 11th). In APUSH we were excused from most of the homework if we got an A on the tests, so it was an easy class.

I took what constituted 5 APs this year (A/B calc, both econs, IB English HL Year 1, IB Euro History Year 1, IB Spanish 5 SL).

I’m taking 3 IB HLs next year (an AP in each), an IB SL (Philosophy, not testing), and AP Stat.

yeah, it’s really hard. and it’s not for everyone. but you don’t need to take an all-AP schedule to get in to a very good school.

I’m taking 5 APs and our classes are year long (7 periods). You just do it, there’s no other way.

Colleges are looking for rigor, not insanity. If I wanted to be a Language major, I would take AP French, AP German, AP Italian, AP Spanish, and AP Chinese. But there would be no sense in me taking AP classes in subjects I have no interest in. So taking one of every AP subject makes you a candidate for a liberal arts college, but not a college where you want to focus your studies.

Also, AP classes vary in difficulty at different schools. One person could take 12 APs, but at his school AP classes were easy and received the same amount of work as the regular classes. Another person could take 4 APs, but at her school AP classes had 2 hours of homework each every night. Quality, not quantity.

5 or 6 doesn’t really seem like that many APs to me. I took 4 this year. I couldn’t take any more because I’m only in 2nd year French, there was a stupid required class I had to take that took up one semester, and I’m not giving up Orchestra. It was easy. I dance 4 days a week, I tutor, I volunteer, I’m on quiz team. It’s only hard in the winter because one night a week I don’t get home until around 10 because of Ski Club.

next year I’m taking either 4 or 5, depending on whether I can take French at UC instead of AP at school. And I’ll be taking one college course. I’ll have 6 nights of ballet a week, plus all of those other things I usually do. I have free time to read about 30 books a year, but I don’t have that much of an interest in going out with my friends every weekend. We get together, at the very least, once a month. But other than that, I’m fine just seeing them in school.

I personally think you should max out your class schedule to max intensity. Then just lul at it and DON’T FREAKING PROCRASTINATE LOL. Then it should be pretty easy. Like IV said, do it in class lolz/learn to bs all essays/papers.

Although, you’ll still have to give up any regular partying/going out you might do.
It will be sparse, very sparse lol.

There isn’t any point in not taking AP classes either.

i know of noone who does such a thing…

I know someone who took 25 APs all throughout high school, while doing a million extracurriculars. Obviously not all of them were classes, but it’s a hell lot of work to self-study so many.

I think it also depends on the rigor of your high school. At some schools, taking 6 APs may be quite manageable. At a more cut-throat school, it might be much more difficult.

Like many have said, it all depends on the schools rigor as well as time management and other inherent skills in the student. For example, I had 5 APs this year but with my school they don’t have a huge workload, and I only do assignments - never study other than what’s due. I also worked 60+ hours a week from August through Nov 4th on a political campaign, while going to half a dozen tennis tournaments around the country and practicing 2+ hours a day… but I had no social life lol… this was the max I could do. On the other hand, I went out to California for a week in December and stayed with a friend who goes to a prep school I’m sure everybody in cali is familiar with. He had 3 APs and came home from school every night and did homework basically straight through the night. His courses were insane, mine weren’t, so I could take many more.

i signed up for five this year, period scheduling.
im expecting little sleep, and less of a social life than i have right now (which isn’t much of a social life at all)…

I took 5 APs 1 Honors and 2 College classes (Calc 2 and Linear Algebra)

Turned out fine for me.

Only problem being I’m not allowed to take 6/7 APs next year, so I am stuck with 5 =/

I won’t be able to take any AP’s next year.

you man-up and tell yourself that you’re better than sleep.
on weekends you go into coma mode.
:]

■■■■■, phuloridian. My parents never understand why I enter “coma mode” on the weekend. I tried to explain that I only got a few hours of sleep each night. . .

Hmm ***? I thought APs were hard? I’m going to take my first ones this year, Sophmore, and its going to be AP Bio, AP USH, AP COMP Science. So… will it be easy???

Because we’re smart.

That doesn’t counteract with the thought that you guys could be studying all day, does it?

Lol. I’m only taking 3 this year. I’ve never took AP before. But I’m going to do sports all year.
