How can some of you guys take 5 and 6 AP classes a year?

^^^ No we (as in the people handling multiple AP’s in addition to extracurriculars) don’t need to study that much. Just pay attention in class and use your brain. There’s only so many times you can go over your notes, read the textbook, flip flashcards, and study. Homework time can be reduced by doing it in other classes or during snack/lunch. Meh, I was blessed with photographic memory and good genes (dad went to UCI, mom went to prestigious Taiwan university and UMich AA)

Lol I can remember greek alphabet from 4 years ago that I only studyed for 15 minutes in the shower for 7th grade history… Does that make me smart? xD

Oh lord, another smart discussion. Just what HSL needs.

Our AP physics class requires to take both ap test as does our AP English class. It’s still considered one class, so obviously the difficulty of courses varies from school.

Also, it depends on your EC. I do debate, piano, mock trial and well, I’m pretty good with awards in all but I don’t do nearly as much work as varsity athletes. If you’re an athlete (especially swimming) with 4-5 APs you’re either insane or a genius

What most CC’ers won’t tell you is that they only get 4-5 hours of sleep a night. That’s how they handle 5 or 6 AP classes.

You’re all slaves to the system, and I am the only enlightened one.

^ You wish you were.

The guy who takes 3 AP classes and gets 10+ hours of sleep is smarter than the guy who takes 5 and barley manages to get 5 hours.

^It’s impossible to get 10 hours of sleep…but yes 7 maybe…

I got 10 hours of sleep a few nights last year.

^

Same.

Lol swimming? That’s probably one of the easiest sports to juggle with a difficult schedule.

Not Varsity Soccer.

You just suck it up and be a man about things? lol

In all seriousness, I play sports throughout the school year (fall, winter, spring) and last year, I managed to deal with all on top of 5 AP’s + 1 self-study + intense research class. It wasn’t nearly as bad as people made it out to be. I had my fair share of plenty of sleepless nights, but sometimes that’s inevitable and you just have to grind through. I think self-discipline comes easy to me and that helps a lot.

Soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse and hockey are probably the most time consuming.

At my school 6 is probably the most you can take in one year, and it would mean no electives and take a lot of tweaking to do. And it’d have to be senior year because that’s the only time you can take an AP foreign language.

AP classes at my school aren’t too hard and not too time consuming, with the exception of AP Lang (insane workload)

I’m gonna have to jump in and be biased and say that crew is in fact the most time consuming. I have practice year round after school from 3-7 or 7:30 and have practice most Saturdays and regattas every Sunday in the spring. So no weekend coma for me :frowning: Last year, in addition, I took 4 APs, did an independent science research project on fingerprinting, and was in multiple other time consuming activities (a cappella group that practices before school every day, robotics, academic team, piano, was the VP of Finance for a charity). I actually got a decent amount of sleep, but I tend to work very quickly at the expense of quality… not always the best idea. I think the most important thing is to know what you’re getting yourself into so that you’re prepared to handle the workload when it comes, instead of spending a bunch of time being surprised/stressed.

This depends on the school and it’s geographic location, really. At my school, the swimmers have practice around 5 AM before school, and during season they have practice again afterwards. Cross country trains year-round twice a day. Football and basketball rack up some serious hours during season, but tend not to do much in the off season. And hockey in Texas… well, that’s a no-brainer.

Junior year, I took 5 APs, 1 Honors, self studied two extra APs (Physics C, so not easy AP) and took Linear Algebra at night at the community college.

I got like 8 hours of sleep. It wasn’t hard. Although I started nodding off in Linear Algebra because it was after dinner time and a full stomach in a warm room doesn’t really match.

Senior year I ended up taking 4 APs and Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations and Calculus-based Physics (quantum stuff, relativity, modern physics) and slept fine. Juggled ec’s in between.

Second semester came and my college classes were over, so I had a slacker schedule of just 4 AP’s. Perfect schedule. 7am-11am then I was done with school for the day. So I joined track and did other enjoyable things in between. The only time I had less than 8 hours was when I decided to stay up a few hours later to watch tv and play videogames lol.

^That makes me hopeful.
