is there anywhere to find out what courses and in what school the professor teaches? also, if a professor is a wharton professor, how can we find out if that professor teaches MBAs or undergrads? and does it matter for the “which professor” question?

Through Penn's One University program, all undergrads have access to all undergrad and graduate courses. So basically, I think you can write about pretty much anyone.

if you know the professor's field, you can go to the penn registrar's site and look at the course listings under that field to see if his/her name is listed by an undergrad course (000 to 400 level, usually) or grad / MBA course (500+).

for example, if professor x (ooh x-men) is a health care systems professor, you would go to the hcmg section of the registrar's site, which is here:

and see if professor x is listed by any course, cross-referencing with the spring 2007 listing link at the top of each section (just to be sure).

for the question it doesn't matter as much, since research can be done with any professor that's willing, regardless of their instructional level.

thanks that's a big help

The professor does not have to teach undergrads. I chose a professor in the medical school that was doing something I was interested in. Most of the labs headed by graduate faculty open themselves up to undergraduates for research.
