How come websites say economics is an excellent major but people on forums say different.

many major websites state that economics is one of the best paying/marketable majors. If this is the case, how come people on forums always say that a business/accounting degree is always better? I don't get it.

It honestly depends where you go to college, and not as much the major.

is a usc econ/math major a good investment? would it fit under the forbes category of good econ majors u think?

Another factor to consider is what other majors the school offers. LACs don’t offer business majors (I believe?), so economics might be the most “business like” major available. Again, at most UC schools, aspiring accountants get an undergrad “business economics” degree (with which they get Big 4 jobs and become CPAs).

USC = Southern California I assume? Unless you want to do something specifically economics focused, I would think you’ll find broader opportunities with a degree from the business school.

Its really a matter of opinion, you could get an accounting job, as soon as you graduate. If job security is a high priority to you. But a lot of people can’t handle accounting so I don’t recommend it, unless that’s what you really want. If you are more interested in Econ, than go for it. The major alone is all you need, if you want to add a double major or minor, than consider what you want to do with econ. Math is helpful, but maybe a foreign language might be attractive to certain employers, too.

I love Econ and Math combo. The best economists are very strong at math. Math itself also provides technical positions as well.
