How competitive am I looking so far?

<p>Right now I'm a sophomore (class of 2014) and I'm wondering how I'm doing in terms of what I need to improve on and what colleges I should be looking at for my level. If I put something in for 11th or 12th grade then that's because I'm virtually guaranteed to continue with it.</p>

<p>Me:
-White, Male, Upper-Middle class
-Hooks: Openly Gay? Might help a small amount.</p>

<p>My School:
-Public, Semi-Rural, Upper-middle/middle class high school in Maryland
-Maybe up to 4 or so kids go to ivys each year (I don't have exact numbers but there are definitely people going to ivys from my school)
~360 to 370 in my class</p>

<p>Academics:
- All honors or AP level. I'm taking 3 APs right now, more than all other sophomores with the exception of one other kid. (My school is conservative as to how many APs and who takes them but they have very high 5 rates). As difficult as physically possible course-load.
- I'm taking Chinese (this might have an impact on admission to certain programs?)
- I currently have a 4.0 UW GPA
- I obviously don't know much about my class rank but I'm probably towards the very top
- I'm expecting to get 5s in AP Statistics, AP World History, AP Human Geography. I've scored very safely into the 5 range on all the practice tests so far.
- I can't speak to my PSAT much as I was a nervous wreck. Now I'm in great classes with teachers who have done a fabulous job prepping for standardized tests and I feel highly confident I will do well.</p>

-I was the main student charge of the 7 Chinese Exchange Students at my school (20 hrs)
-Volunteered at my local library during my freshman year some weekends (45 hrs)
-I played violin for the school play freshman and sophomore years (80 hrs total)
-A local student orchestra I'm in gives a concert at a retirement home annually (40 hrs)
-I run Gay-Straight Alliance fundraisers and campaigns occasionally (6 or 7 hrs)</p>

<p>What should I be doing more of? What needs to improve besides SATs? What colleges should I be looking at? (By the way, I want to major in Stat, Math, or Econ)</p>

<p>Wow, you’re looking quite competitive thus far. I suggest finding a summer internship and solidifying your involvement in the gay straight alliance group. Perhaps instead of “occasionally” participating, start a club at school that has a weekly campaign/fundraiser/event. Keep your grades up and progressively pick up an even harder curriculum</p>

<p>I would love to get involved more with LGBT activities but I go to a relatively conservative school (socially more moderate). My parents are conservative catholics and aren’t supportive of me so I’m unfortunately very limited in what I can do in the Gay community.</p>

<p>This summer I’ll be living in China for my school districts student ambassador program, so internships (regardless its too late to apply) aren’t a possibility now. Maybe junior or senior year I’ll do an internship at a bank. I think I might be able to work something out.</p>

<p>Am I on track to have a decent shot at any ivys? Chicago? Georgetown? NYU?</p>
