Do most economics, finance, and business students at top universities and LACs share the common goal of wanting to begin a career in investment banking or hedge funding? I have not found many statistics on these things other than that around 30-40% of Wharton finance students get jobs in investment banking. How difficult is it to land an internship in iBanking if you keep a 3.8-4.0 GPA at HYP, Cornell, Brown, Williams, Amherst, etc.? How difficult is it to find a job given that you had an internship and have established alumni connections? In the end, what percentage of students with ~3.8+ GPAs at top schools who want jobs in investment banking ultimately land a job in it? Is it possible to get a job in the BB or at a top boutique without being recruited out of undergrad? I know that these are a lot of questions that seem to have easy-to-find answers, but I could not find anything online.

In addition, do you personally think that these "protests" will have any impact on the investment banking industry?

You’ll get interviews for SA positions your junior year at any of the above schools with a gpa of 3.7+. From there, it’s a function of luck and how well you do at the interviews.

Most people who have SA ultimately get full time offers (about 75% at my bank this previous year, though there are no set numbers).

The statistics you mentioned aren’t really out there because it’s irrelevant. You’re not the average person and what the average person does has no basis on how well you do.
If this is something you want, you can do many things to hedge your bets and increase your chances but ultimately, there are no guarantees.

Also, have you opened up the wsj in the last few months? The layoffs, the market dropping, increased regulation are all infinitely more important than any protests are going to have.

I know that those things have more of an impact; that’s a given. I am talking about the future of the way it operates, the bonuses that are offered, etc. However, I have doubts about that too. I am just looking for input.

If we could predict the future, we wouldn’t be working…
