My high school teacher said she went to brown for undergrad in EE and masters in education. How hard is this school to get into? How legit is it?

Well, Brown is one of the toughest ivys to get accepted to. It is not as hard as say Harvard, Yale and Princeton, based on applications, but probably harder than the rest. From our high school, no one get accepted with under 1475 SATs and Top grades. Does that answer your question.

brown isnt just about stas, as other schools seem to be. they also look for character and value that as well as individuality. i got a 29 on the ACT's and i still got in with a 3.86 GPA. but there was a WHOLE lot more to me then that.

How legit is Brown? It's as "legit" as Harvard, or any other accredited college or university. I'm not quite sure what you mean. If you mean prestige, it's in the ivy league, and employers will certainly recognize the name.

i mean for engineering. how is its engineering compared to MIT and berkeley? does engineering employers recognize the name brown? is it the one of the least selective ivies?

Stop being so superficial. If you have questions, why don't you try to actually read a book or go on the Brown website and find the information yourself.

Actually, for engineering, Brown isn't as reputable as MIT or Berkeley, but few of the ivies are. The top schools are mostly state schools or tech schools. Cornell is 10th, Princeton is 12th, Columbia and Harvard are tied at 28th, Brown is at 39th, and Yale and Dartmouth are tied at 47th. HOWEVER, DO NOT BASE YOUR DECISION ON RANKINGS. I was just listing them to prove a point.

my point was i was questioning my math teacher who went to brown for Electrical Engineering. i wondered why she would go to there for engineering and how legit is that department compared to top engineering schools or do they just hand out grades?

p.s. why is it that private schools (harvard, yale, brown) sux in engineering compared to tech schools and public schools (berkeley, MIT, cornell)?

Cornell is public?

Parts of it. I don't think engineering is one of them though.

Cornell has some affiliation with the state of NY, but no, it's not public.

No, parts are SUNY. Instate students get reduced tuition.

People go to Brown for Brown (and Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, etc) and happen to engineers. Most end up going into business as opposed to actually going into engineering as its usually much more lucrative. Places like GM, Boeing, etc tend to recruit from state schools like Purdue and Illinois.

Also, Brown is not the least selective Ivy. I would suffice it to say that Penn, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Brown all are nearly the same, which means really hard to get into.
