How conservative?

Hey everyone I'm considering applying to transfer to CMC for fall 2014. I will apply to be a government major and have a few concerns with how conservative CMC. I am a very progressive type of guy and being surrounded by a lot of conservatives is not appealing to me. I don't mean to sound intolerant, I love hearing others view points but I can't see myself happy with that type of environment for the next two years. Just curious about how accurate is this stereotype of CMC?

A friend of mine who goes to CMC told me this:
CMC is the most conservative of the Claremont colleges. That being said, it definitely leans liberal. It’s pretty middle of the road and you always hear both viewpoints in the classroom, but there are more liberals than conservatives.
Hope that helps!

College campuses are generally very liberal.

The reason CMC is considered to be “conservative” is because they have a good balance of both viewpoints. And for a college to be balanced, means they are marked with the “conservative” stereotype even though the prevalence of left may still outweigh the right.

It’s like identifying as Hispanic even though you’re 75% white. Because a good amount of Hispanic heritage is there, you may choose how to identify yourself.

I think it should also be stated that educated conservatives aren’t your gun-toting, bible wielding, occasionally racist, 'Murica grunting and globally ignorant idiots you see on TV. A lot of conservative policy comes from economics, not social intolerance. I think you will see your fair share of political views, but as the “most conservative” claremont college, it still leans left. like gutsandglory said
